Mack on the tackling issues

We need to send some of these players back to Pop Warner for some remedial training..................

funny you said that, weekend ago I was at my grandson's 11 year old game. Kid broke loose running the ball and 2 of our guys were just slapping at the ball trying to knock it out. Kid ran for a TD. That's what they seem to be emphasizing now days. Back in my day (please, no leather helmet) we were taught to put the helmet into the ball and wrap up. You get both, a shot at a TO and wrapping up. Now they teach avoiding helmet contact altogethe. I know why of course but the emphasis is still there on creating turnovers when the natural tackle doesn't do it. Combine that with the ESPN highlight blowup the runner thing and you got some bad tackling out there.

Yeah I'm guessing but if you listen to Mack or any D-Coordinator that Mack has had they always talk about turnovers and creating turnovers. Obviously an emphasis.

Now I don't believe that the coaches aren't teaching proper tackling but I believe that it should be instinctive to a player at this level. That's why I have my doubts about the communication between the coaches and players. The breakdown of fundamental football skills has happened often enough for me to believe it's random.

I think that senior leadership in the secondary may have something to do with it....

Instead of "looking new personnel" how about you know.... coaching?

Everyone and their dog knows that Diggs won't be sat, but he is one of the worst culprits when it comes to not wrapping up. So don't pee down my leg and tell me it's raining/that you're looking at new personnel.

When Diggs misses tackles they dont turn into big plays cant say the same about the others

Uh.. wrong. I love me some Diggs, but he missed a tackle against Okie Lite that resulted in a TD. Fact.

And I don't care if it results in a 99 yard TD or a 2 yard loss, missed tackles should not be tolerated at all. It's very simple basic stuff we're talking here.

  • It wasnt Diggs fault KV was in man to man and got beat and blamed it on diggs

  • If you want to bench Diggs you haven't watched a minute of Texas football. Just ridiculous

Right now Diggs is playing better than Kenny. Diggs seems to be acting like an upperclassmen moreso than Vaccaro as well . Vaccaro is constantly berating the other players and visibily upset when we give up a big play.

I understand the competitiveness he has but there are bunch of young guys out there and instead of yelling at them and getting upset he should be a leader and help them fix the problem.

That is the way I see it.

    The Shape

  • The back seven have been coached for two years to generate turnovers above all else. It's still a young group overall - they just don't know completely yet what situations are optimal for them to try and knock the ball loose and where they just need to get the guy on the ground. I think it's a subtlety that more experienced players get, but a lot of it has to do with Manny's philosophy. I think a Blackjack analogy is apt here.

Manny's the kind of blackjack player that seemingly randomly triples their bet after losing a few hands, just looking for that something that will alter the flow and momentum. While he's a cerebral guy and reads what the offensive play caller is doing, he also does a lot purely based on feel. I think this translates to his charges doing the same thing, whether it's guessing a run fit as opposed to purely reading it, or "pressing the bet" when trying to knock a ball loose.

Muschamp was a more predictable playcaller. As cerebral as Manny, but much more controlled when it comes to how the chaos gets unfurled.

Reading comprehension? Was this not your comment? Are you not implying Diggs is one of the worst tacklers on the team? If you can not stand by your words, perhaps you should not same them

    That was my comment.

I'm not implying anything. I'm stating that he's one of the worst at not wrapping up. It's plain English. Most people use it. Try it sometime.

I'm saying that instead of spouting off about looking at "new personnel" that they need to COACH players like Diggs (that will sit on the bench when Hell freezes over) need to be coached properly. Get it?
