Mack just said in an interview with Mel Kiper

  • that we will prob play both QBs since neither have separated. when asked about two QBs vs. one, he said he only liked one better if they are like Colt or VY. But then he references Colts injury when advocating for two QBs. Dont know what the hell he is thinking. Mack is gonna F this season up with this two QB crap.

  • Agreed. It's obvious we NEED to go with David for the sake of put play book alone. I really hope he is trying to throw everyone off.

  • I don't care what he says now, although his point about Colt's injury, and the need to have a ready backup is a lesson we've all wanted him to learn. Seems silly to ding him for that now.

I feel confident in thinking that this is all meant to motivate Ash not to coast through camp. He'll be named the starter, and Case will get some first half snaps through September to make sure an injury to Ash doesn't completely destroy the season (just limit the ceiling, IMO).

  • he said the same thing before the holiday bowl. i'm not too worried. i think this will take care of itself when the lights turn on. if there isn't separation, you go with the guy with more baseline talent.

    mcwast

  • The plan all along has been to get the second string guy in once every four or five drives so that if there's an injury, we aren't cut off at the legs like most teams would be. Don't worry

  • Maybe he wants the competition to keep pushing both of them? At this point you would have to imagine that if it becomes a distraction in the locker room, he will end it then.

Maybe that means the locker room is torn and he doesn't want a repeat of what happened with Gilbert.

  • Ash and McCoy should both play the 1st 2 games, maybe at the 65-35 they have been splitting in fall practice. Though McCoy's 35% better be not handing the ball off to run out the clock.

That's the biggest reason why Texas never had a backup ready to go, he never let them run the offense when they came in because he didn't want to hurt the other team's feelings too much.

Screw that, if your 2nd-3rd teamers are beating other team's 1st teamers then that's not on you, Mack. Besides my feelings have always been, I'll stop trying to score when you stop trying to score.

After the 1st 2 games, Ash needs to be getting 100% of the important snaps.

  • Ash is still green. He needs every rep he can get. Playing both or even putting the backup in every 4th or 5th series is just stupid.

I dont think Mack understands the notion of allowing your QB to find his groove and get in a rhythym.

Was that what Garrett Gilbert's entire 2010 season was?

Dude. Simple little one liners that make you think you made a point but are completely irrelevant don't really suit you.

I never thought Gilbert earned the job. I don't think the same about Ash. He's earned it. He came in a true frosh and played when he should have had to. He's kept his mouth shut, put in the work, and progressed when given the chance. Don't know exactly how anyone with two brain cells can compare the two situations. Entirely different.

yes. After 40 years of coaching he has no idea that a QB needs snaps and practice to earn rhythym. Christ.

The funny thing about your obsession and incessant harping over the same topic is that you can't seem to accept that Mack tells different people different things for different reasons. When Mack is talking to Mel Kiper (or any media), Mack is really talking to you, anonymous fan. You are not an insider. Thus, Mack will not tell you squat. Thus, you don't know squat. Save your complaints for what you see on the field during games. That's when you'll know what Mack and the coaches are actually thinking.

  • He's lying. Let's revisit the 2010 Kansas State game if he wants to play the card that he likes using multiple QBs when they suck.

4 TD passes in an entire season is EARNING a starting QB job. Hilarious. His terrible play cost us the Oklahoma St, Missouri, and Kansas State games. If he merely played average we would have won. He was one of the worst QBs in all of FBS and hasn't shown anything.

    FNRHorn

  • Somebody wake me when we truly have something legitimate to worry about. We all know what Mack says and what he actually does with regard to QB play typically varies substantially. How's about we see who he trots out for Wyoming and how they actually perform before getting so amped about it. I'm amused at how many take Mack's word as the gospel with regard to the QBs.

    ATX89

  • I'm not buying what Mack is saying. One of the guys will be the primary guy and that guy is going to be Ash.

Yeah, Ash was terrible last year. I watched the 2011 The Season the other day and when they run down the highlights of each game, it's clear we lost every single game due to QB and offense turning the ball over then not being able to sustain any drives. Ash had a LONG way to go to just be adequate as a QB, and for that matter Case did too. I'm not confident in either of these guys until they prove something.

  • Makes you really appreciate VY, Colt, Applewhite and even James Brwn and Simms. Mediocre play gets us to ten wins this year. Poor QB play has us at 8
