Mack Relationship with the Media

Yea, Baylor "plugged" a QB in this year and lost 5 games after losing their senior led QB... that was even after replacing him with another senior that had started before.

Oklahoma State went from 12-1 to 7-5 after losing their veteran QB... they are young, and I expect them to be fine. Still a question mark on who will be attrition over the spring.

Landry Jones went 8-5 in his first year as a starter / 2nd in the system and finished 4th in the conference.

Tech went 11-2 in 08 and then lost Harrel to go 9-4 the next season...

TCU went from 13-0 to 11-2 in a week conference after losing Dalton to graduation...

I'm sure some will be "good", but they will also lose games due to their inexperience is the point.

Baylor got good QB play this year. Terrible defense.

OSU got good QB play from 3 QBs that were injured at different times.

Landry Jones had a terrible offensive line in his first year.

Experience does matter but I do not see a dramatic drop off at the QB position in the Big 12.

  • i expect the QB play in the Big XII to be every bit as good next year as this year...as Bobby said in another thread, Texas needs to become great at something. I don't see it being QB play but I would love to be wrong there.

If by fair weather fan, you mean someone who donates 8k a year to the LHF, then yes that's me.

Look, my point is that there is nothing wrong with a reasoned discussion regarding some of the obvious deficiencies within the program. You do not have to be irrationally deferential to authority, in this case Mack Brown/Belmont, to be a good fan, citizen, employee, etc. We should always be looking for ways to evolve and strive to be better at every turn. You can choose to put your head in the sand, while reality passes you by, but I think any objective bystander can see that A&M had a solid season in what is perceived by almost everyone as the most difficult conference, while Texas is viewed as a program that is spinning its wheels right now. Personally, I do not think the state of the program is as bad as some claim, nor as rosy as you claim, but I see nothing wrong with constructive criticism in order to try and take this program back to the top where it belongs on a consistent basis.

I don't care how much $$$ you donate to the LHF. Is that supposed to impress me, or give you some sort of power over the decision making process within the AD?

I have seen an improvement from the 5-7 season in 2010 over the last two years. Mack made difficult decisions and gutted the entire coaching staff, and a large number of the kids that were in the program. That was just last year... we missed on a kid that we thought was going to be Joe Montana, and we asked a high school freshmen to be VY or Colt in his first year out of school. Oh yea, and we asked him to do that with an offensive line that was put together by Mac McWorter and his finesse offense.

Mack said that the goal was to be "back" in 2013... or next year. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and wait and see.

And, what exactly did Aggy achieve in 2012? A lot of hype and a 5th place finish in the conference.

I see progress, and I see problems (IMO) but we signed up for this just last year. Give the man the chance that we signed up for and see if he can get us back. History would tell me that he can... if we don't achieve what he has told us that we can next year, then I'll carry the damn lantern for you and the rest of the lynchmob.

Experience does matter but I do not see a dramatic drop off at the QB position in the Big 12.

Florence was 2nd in the conference with 13 interceptions. That is 7 more than Baylor had in 2011. It wasn't all defense... plus, Florence was a 5th year senior that had started for the Bears in prior seasons..

OSU went from Big 12 CHamps to 7-5 and 1-4 on the road. They are young though, so I expect them to improve next year.

Landry Jones was sacked the exact same amount of times in 2009 as he was in 2012. The difference in the W's and L's is his experience as a QB. This years offensive line was patchwork, and I would say that Jones leadership made them look better.

I'm not saying "dramatic"... I expect OU to struggle a bit more, and for KState to fall off a bit... those two, by the way are the one's that finished ahead of us this year.

Ash will mature as well, and already has stats that are above any other QB in the league that is returning... besides Paschal if he returns from dryout.

We need to be great at everything IMO and keep our opponents off balance with our play calling. We are close to accomplishing that too...

We have a solid power running game, solid outside speed game, solid passing game (short/mid tier/deep) with Ash... the key is to keep defensive coordinators off balance and to utilize all of those aspects of our offense. Trying to force the power running game when it isn't working is ridiculous. I saw that way too much this year... we need confidence, and we need tempo to get more offensive plays.

The play calling at KU and TCU were borderline atrocious... same with WVU to be honest.

By the way - would you be more comfortable with Belmont if we had ended 5th in the conference instead of 3rd? Feel free to carry Aggy on your shoulders for their 5th place finish this year.

Not commenting on anything else you said, but this is not a fair comparison. Aggy finished 5th with two less losses than we had. I'd take their record over ours, and so would you. In fact, I'd take their season over ours, and so would you. I have no proble, ripping the Ags, but this argument is not a good one.

They played / beat two lower division schools in S.Crayola St. and Sam Houston St... In reality, the only won 8 games that are relevant to being bowl eligible. Ya know what - so did we!

They squeked out a win against Old Mrs., and beat La.Tech 59-57? They beat an overrated Bama team... period.

I'll give'em this... they did better than they have in the Big 12 in years.

The improvement you speak of is fool's gold. 2-6, 4-5, and 5-4 in the conference the past 3 seasons isn't improvement.

Making it rain after barely beating KU isn't improvement.

    55-17 to 65-21 against OU isn't improvement.

I hope you're right about 2013, but don't count on it.

I choose to stay optimistic if it's okay with you... also 4 is greater than 2, and 5 is better than 4 the last time I checked. That 5 needs to turn into an 8 or 9 next year. We'll see...

The difference in where UT is and where Aggy is right now is they are optimistic and a lot of our fans are completely negative... do you hear Aggy compaining that they barely beat Old Mrs or La.-Technical college? Do you hear them complaining that they only won 8 games that were over Division l schools? No -- they think they are the greatest for it. Despite being 5th in the conference, Aggy and a lot of fair weather Longhorns fans think that they are the greatest thing ever.

    It makes me laugh...

I'll continue to stay optimistic for the opportunity that is ahead of us in 2013.

  • I agree, im not big on going after a guys job! But with that said I have been a season ticket since 1990. Section 1. I have gladly paid every rate hike just to see my horns. But Im here to say until Mack leaves I will not step a foot back at DKR. I sale them every year so I dont lose my option. Im sorry to be like this but I cant take this leading us on, and soft teams anymore. If he is the man he proclaims to be he will retire and let somebody hungry and angry come in and lite a fire in this sissy ass place.

I talk negatively to three groups of people: 1.) Aggy 2.) Land Thieves 3.) fair weather Texas fans... Since you are one of those, I will accept your advice and kindly tell you to go take a flying f--- at a rolling donut.

By the way - to answer your question... No! The 5th place SEC team and gangster wanna be are not in my head at all. If you don't like having your mugshot posted on the internet, then don't get into racially charged fights and provide a fake ID to the cops. How stupid does on have to be to give a fake ID to a cop? Especially somebody that has been arrested already... multiple times.

Aggy - gotta love the sheep f------!

Why do you blanketly speak negatively to anyone? Are you saying if someone went to another school you immediately become hostile?
