Mack Relationship with the Media

    Was it this guy?

Boy, the Heisman Trophy winner appears to be in your head.

In any case, some of us are mature enough to have adult discussions without being influenced by the team we support. From your responses to various others, it's obvious that's not your strong suit.

I talk negatively to three groups of people: 1.) Aggy 2.) Land Thieves 3.) fair weather Texas fans... Since you are one of those, I will accept your advice and kindly tell you to go take a flying f--- at a rolling donut.

By the way - to answer your question... No! The 5th place SEC team and gangster wanna be are not in my head at all. If you don't like having your mugshot posted on the internet, then don't get into racially charged fights and provide a fake ID to the cops. How stupid does on have to be to give a fake ID to a cop? Especially somebody that has been arrested already... multiple times.

Mack and the Texas sports info department has made it tougher to cover the Horns than it is at other places. Little or no pre- or post-practice interviews, no practices open to media only, preferred access by LHN, often preferred access by TV media over print or Internet, etc.

I'm curious how much of that is Mack and how much of it might be at the LHN direction in order to keep up their exclusivity. Of course, that isn't to say that it also couldn't be cover from a beleagured program to blame LHN.....

Great point... that's also what I meant with my post about how much information they already place in the public eye with the LHN.

I still think that it's a mix between the LHN and the negativity from outside the locker room regarding the team. The media and the fans are both lumped into this category and everything that he says can be used out of context to stump momentum. Mack knows that anything that can be used as negative will get back to his team and effect moral and positive energy.

Wow, man, it's obvious you are not capable of rational and reasoned discussion concerning any deficiencies in Belmont or with Mack Brown. Moreover, your attacks and pathetic attempts to undermine A&M's solid season and Manziel's Heisman look weak, petty, and childish.

Well then you're not paying attention. This is an issue that long predates LHN. Go search for old posts mentioning "Brian Jones" and you will find video clips from earlier this year when UT letterman and former host of Mack's weekly radio show Brian Jones talks about how he was bullied several times by Mack for not being positive enough about the program. There is no doubt this is a Mack deal and retribution for asking tough questions is very real.

I apologize - EVERY team in the nation has it's own deficiencies. Not just Belmont FYI.

I read this entire post (COMING FROM AN AGGY) on a UT board as an attempt to undermine the UT establishment. And, that, I take offense to. I can tell that you are one of those fair weather fans that I mentioned above, so in that case I really don't care to hear you focus on all of the negatives and completely ignore the positive attributes of the program.

By the way - would you be more comfortable with Belmont if we had ended 5th in the conference instead of 3rd? Feel free to carry Aggy on your shoulders for their 5th place finish this year. And continue your negative feelings about YOUR own program because they aren't doing what you want them to do... and you say that I am "incapable of rational and reasoned discussions"

That's rich right there my man - keep carrying the torch and cutting down the very program that you are trying to support. Genius philosophy

Isn't Mack paid $5 mil to neutralize "negative energy" coming from the fans and media by communicating with his players?

I suppose it's the fans and media's fault for getting blasted by OU, needing a last second TD to beat KU, and the dumpster fires that were TCU and K-State.

Reading what you said, the media and fans should just shut their mouths and believe everything the Bellmont Information Ministry publishes.

In other words, mediocrity is just like the weather. If it's inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.

I expect that Mack is communicating with his players just fine. That's the sense I get from leaders like Okafor, Vaccaro, Diggs, etc...

I never said that it was the fans or media's fault for the debacle in the Cotton Bowl, and the loss to TCU. Young teams go through growing pains during the course of growing up.

I believe it was just one year ago when Mack gutted the roster, and the coaching staff and estimated a 2 year turnaround for the program to get back to where it was. I didn't expect anything less than 3 to 4 losses this season. That's the same with the media... AP, Coaches, and just about every other media outlet predicted exactly what the team has accomplished this season.

Next year, 2013 is what Mack identified as the year things will turn, and at this point, based on what I've seen, I have no reason to doubt that this team can be very successful next year and show improvement for the 3rd straight year.

That is the man's commitment that he made to the program, and I am optimistic that it will happen. We can return 19 of 22 starters and will be a very veteran team next year. There are five senior QB's in the conference that will be gone next year... both of the two above us in the standings. We have a lot to look forward too.

I don't know who it will be, but my guess is that the QBs in the Big 12 aren't going to just drop off the map. They haven't in the past five years and I don't expect them to next year, either.

Seems like most of the teams that are losing QBs have a plug and play system in place so I expect them to have good QBs.

That makes Mack different from how many other coaches? Stoops? Saban?

I get that the pitchforks are out. That doesn't mean, however, that Mack's behavior is all that different from other coaches, some of whome we'd love to have. The difference is that everything now is being spun negatively.

BTW- I'm guessing next year IS Mack's last, regardless of how things turn out in SA. I'll leave the determination of whether or not he deserves a swan song up to another thread.

I agree - they will provide offensive fire works, but if you look at the top two teams over the years they have been led by 3rd or 4th year guys... you can't tell me that experience and maturity won't help in the QB position next year...

Here's a quick look at the top QB's in the Big 12 over the last several years... the common trend is experience

    2012 Klein,KState (5th year), Jones,OU (5th year)
    2011 Weeden,OKSt (5th year), Klein,KSt (4th year)
    2010 Jones,OU (3rd year), Weeden,OKSt (4th year)
    2009 McCoy,UT (5th year), Lee,NU (4th year)
    2008 McCoy,UT (4th year), Bradford,OU (3rd year)

Yea, Baylor "plugged" a QB in this year and lost 5 games after losing their senior led QB... that was even after replacing him with another senior that had started before.

Oklahoma State went from 12-1 to 7-5 after losing their veteran QB... they are young, and I expect them to be fine. Still a question mark on who will be attrition over the spring.

Landry Jones went 8-5 in his first year as a starter / 2nd in the system and finished 4th in the conference.

Tech went 11-2 in 08 and then lost Harrel to go 9-4 the next season...

TCU went from 13-0 to 11-2 in a week conference after losing Dalton to graduation...

I'm sure some will be "good", but they will also lose games due to their inexperience is the point.

You're talking about age, not starting experience.

Brandon Weeden started just two years.

    Klein started just two years.

Bradford won the Heisman as a redshirt sophomore, his second year as a starter.

I know experience helps - I agree with that tenet. I do not agree, however, that the Big 12 will somehow be devoid of talented QBs.

Hoping that another team is not as good because you expect their QB to be not as good only tells me you're not very confident in your team.

If by fair weather fan, you mean someone who donates 8k a year to the LHF, then yes that's me.

Look, my point is that there is nothing wrong with a reasoned discussion regarding some of the obvious deficiencies within the program. You do not have to be irrationally deferential to authority, in this case Mack Brown/Belmont, to be a good fan, citizen, employee, etc. We should always be looking for ways to evolve and strive to be better at every turn. You can choose to put your head in the sand, while reality passes you by, but I think any objective bystander can see that A&M had a solid season in what is perceived by almost everyone as the most difficult conference, while Texas is viewed as a program that is spinning its wheels right now. Personally, I do not think the state of the program is as bad as some claim, nor as rosy as you claim, but I see nothing wrong with constructive criticism in order to try and take this program back to the top where it belongs on a consistent basis.

Well, every year in the program is going to contribute to experience... both, playing and starting are also important but every year that you have to learn the system is critical to much needed experience.

And, again - I am not saying that they will be devoid of talent. I am simply saying that young, or inexperienced QB's will make mistakes in their first years on the football field. The older / more experienced guys should improve. If anyone can understand that logic it should be Texas fans... we have had nothing but inexperienced QB's for the past 3 years.

I'm not "hoping" for anything either... I just know that it's reality. Colt struggled in his first / second year, and grew up... he was also helped out his first year by having one of the best offensive lines in the nation.

Anything can happen, but Ash is going to be one of those guys that has more experience than most and will also return every offensive lineman, receiver, and running back that he was reliant on the last few years. It will pay dividends.
