Mack Brown Press Conference

    Good for you. +1

I agree with everything except for the first sentence.

Mack is the best coach we've had at UT since DKR.

And he sure does what he is doing (when it comes to press conferences).

Ok, thanks. We are in agreement on all except the press conference, and if you don't like then, fine, it's your right. Hooke'm!!

Since we've had receivers hurt and some leave, we've got to get some better consistency and better timing with the passing game. It's hard with Marquise because he's gone all the time. They don't have him in spring. Part of summer part of fall.

Thats why Marquise should redshirt (missing most of the spring and all of the 7 on 7 summer workouts)

    GoHorns 1

  • The guys who I mentioned before have been released to workout but they haven't been fully released. They will be ready by the summer (or they are expected to be ready by the beginning of summer practices)

  • Hughes probably would have been redshirted. He wasn't in the mix for early playing time.

  • T & Z ... mack can't really explain the position yet becasue they're working on it. The position will start in the backfield some and sometimes will be in motion and be a receiver.

They think Daje could be really good with the ball in his hands.

    Think Reggie Bush.

  • Mack said he doesn't really have top three concerns right now because he's learned that things change.

Somebody will get hurt, somebody will cheat on a test ... and he just expects things to change now.

  • We'll be deeper in the offensive line this year than we were last year at this time.

Been impressed with D.J. grant. He's further removed from his knee injury.

  • defensively they have to gain depth. They're inexperienced at linebacker.

He thinks they'll have depth at end. The tackles are getting better. All of them are starting to play better.

Definitely agree with this...And would add that to be even more of an effective leader you need to be around or interact with more effective leaders. The second these guys think they know everything about leadership is the second their leadership faulters. Lastly if you're only getting leadership adivce from one source then you're severly limiting yourself. Leading MEN (especially alpha male types) is not easy and you absolutely cannot count on one person to be the be all end all. You only get one version of leadership. Gotta be able to use all the tools in the leadership toolbox. LOL...I love the military..

  • halo rule makes it easier to field punts. But kickoff rule makes it different for kickoffs. They might not be a factor this year.

Sounds like a small version of the H-Back. Maybe they could start in a diamond formation and morph into something else.

  • On Hawkins and Moore and junior college route ...

"I think I can say that I'm glad they're here. I think they can both improve a lot and their conditioning will be much better. They both were in a little bit of shock, but I think they'll be better in the summer."

What the longhorns have decided to do is take junior college players if they fit an immediate need and can play right away.

Mack said that in regards to doing the other a favor and taking a player that might be better in one sport or the other.

What an idea! It only took him, what? Ten years and several coaches on staff to figure it out?

  • On reggie Wilson:

"I thought he competed harder all the time. Reggie was a guy who only played a couple of years of football. he got bigger when he got here. What you want to get young players to do is to compete on every play. they're not in great shape typically and they aren't mentally as tough. What we're talking to Reggie and Cedric Reed about is we need 25-30 plays from them where there's no dropoff from Alex and Jackson."

  • Do you think you're a top 10 team?

"I don't know. We can be. I really think it would be fun to go back and look at the preseason polls and see how they were, because most the times they're not even close.

We've got a lot of things that need to work. And if they do, yes, we will be a top 10 team. And if they don't, we wont be a top 10 team.
