  • It was in the early 80's that his uncle Eric Dickerson (also from Sealy)did almost the exact same thing to UT and went to SMU. He teamed there with would-be senator Craig James to form the "pony express" . They were there (or had shortly left before) when all the payola stuff came out, Bobby Collins got fired, and SMU got the death penalty for its football program from the NCAA. At the time nobody understood the sudden change of heart Eric had, but it became apparent as the years went by.
It is very likely something happened in Austin on Sunday that changed his opinion; it may have already been smoldering for days.
UT has been very fortunate to recruit as well as they have, considering how absolutely awful the offense has been since Colt was hurt in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena a few years ago--I mean its been the worst I have ever seen at UT. If its the same this coming year, the seams are going to split at DKR Stadium and explode like a volcano--recruiting will collapse.
Finally, a receiver wants to play on a team that can "get him the ball". If he has watched much film, UT is not that team recently. He also wants to play roundball, too, which is a pipedream unless he doesn't go to class at all. There are schools, mentioned in his mothers' list, that will accommodate that wish instantly. Although he is a tremendous talent, this may be a blessing in the long run. I think he's long gone.

  • Definitely puzzling...lots of things that are in my head, and half of them I just need to keep to myself.

  • The reason why this is shocking is that "getting the ball" didn't seem to be an issue. IIRC he commented that he'd play anywhere it would help the team. WR, TE, DE, who knows? I'm hoping he's just really rethinking things and wants to be sure of his decision. Sealy used to be a pro-aggy kind of town, but I'm not sure what it's like today. Maybe the locals, or family, have been in his ear and he's second guessing. Whatever the case, I hope we keep recruiting him and don't push him away. He's a damn good football player and worth recruiting until NSD.

GH says - "Just to be clear, 247Sports believes Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, and a number of others are being considered.

The list provided by a family member is Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Kansas, Kentucky, SMU, Baylor and California."

You tell me which of these schools is going to throw the ball and get it into the kids hands on a frequent basis?

    I'll hang-up and listen.

Instead of hanging up and listening, call back after next season and let's talk.

  • Did not see this coming.

The only positive out of this is Searles is his area recruiter and he is used to fighting to the end for a recruit from his days in the dirty SEC. Wyatt as his position coach will also fight to the end for a recruit. Hopefully Mack allows them to continue to recruit RSJ.

  • Eric Dickerson was never committed to UT. He decomitted from A&M after an Aggie alum bought him a new Trans Am and made the colossal mistake of giving him the car title before Signing Day. Dickerson drove the Trans Am straight to Highland Park.

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

I still laugh at that story. Dumbass Aggy. SMU just picked up the car payments.

I wish some of you could compose yourselves and not automatically start throwing this kid under the bus. WR is one position were I can't complain if a guy wants to second guess his recruitment all things considered.

I agree with the changes we've seen made to this program, I like the renewed dedication to getting a top notch physical trainer for S&C. I like the move to a more traditional offense, the hiring of new young coaches, and the willingness to go out of state and the JUCO route when necessary. That said, I support the "you're in or out" policy we've taken in the past. The kid has been here, he's seen what we're building, he's met his teammates, and seen the facilities. Nobody is bigger than this program and if you don't want to be a part of it, then don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. We'll find someone to play at the wide-out position, I have no doubt.

  • Anything of note happen at the camp this weekend? Usually commitments seem to be strengthened by events like that.

I take it he didn't approve of the Huhn take? ;)
