Longhorn family lost

Ken Collins life longhorn died today in Houston. President of the Houston Longhorn Club in early 2000s.

Details please GoHorns... Ken was a die-hard Orangeblood as much as they come!

I am told that Ken had a massive stroke on Saturday and passed away earlier today.
He was from Kilgore, settled in Houston and as proud a Longhorn as a person can be. Very active in getting players summer jobs in the 70s and 80s. He worked for Halliburton for decades.
I've known Ken for 15+ years. He will be missed.

I didn't know Ken personally, but I know a lot of the Houston Horns on this board did. Very sad news and I wish the best for his family.

As Bobby said, Ken really helped out the Longhorns for a long time. Before NCAA rule changes, players used to be able to get summer jobs. Ken helped a lot of former players that were disadvantaged get meaningful employment in the Oil Service and Petrochemical plants in Texas. Many of these jobs led to future careers for a lot of players. Darrel Royal, Fred Akers, David McWilliams and Mack Brown all new and appreciated Ken.
As someone had mentioned, Ken was a former President of the Longhorn Club in Houston. I would see him from time to time at the Houston lunch group and never missed him during the season when a coach came to speak. Ken was an outgoing and friendly man that seemed to always have a smile on his face.
May God watch over Ken and keep him close.

Only met Ken once but he was quite a guy. A friend introduced me and knew him fairly well, so I wanted to make sure he knew about whatever was scheduled.

Once you met Ken Collins, you never forgot him. He loved the Longhorns and he loved Kilgore. I called him a friend and I will miss him greatly.

It looks like the funeral and a reception will be on Friday at First Presbyterian in Houston. There will be an announcement tomorrow in the Chronicle and an obituary posted on Thursday.

What a sad loss. I met Kenny through his wife whilst I was over from England and undertaking some training in Houston, in 1977. The pair of them became great friends with my family and we came out to Houston regularly throughout the '80's.
Ken loved the fact he had friends from London. This of course was reciprocated that we had great friends from Houston.
He introduced me to American Football and the Longhorns. Along with the Oilers, they became "my" teams to follow. Kenny often told me about the work he did for the Longhorns and would always have some of their memorobillia to hand when I visited.
Ironically I was only wearing one of "his" Longhorn caps just last week on holiday and my wife and I said how long overdue it was for our next visit acrross the big pond to see Kenny and Tanya.
To say we're devastated is an understatement.
Fairwell Kenny. We loved you loads mate and will never, ever forget you.
