Laughing at the Haters

  • Sometimes being a Texas fan can be interesting. Unfortunatly I no long live in Austin or Texas; It's difficult to survive, but I plod on. I now live in the high mountains of Colorado in the ski area, a place called Frisco. It ain't all that bad if you like waking to ZERO temperature, having no good BB-Q, Mexican food, (tex-mex doesn't exist) and margaritas are bland and week. One form of intertainment is to play with the out-of-staters that hate UT. It is much like a cat and mouse game with me the cat always winning. Folks from Cornland, get all fumed up and try as they can to make deriding statements about the Horns. I point out that at one time I had great respect for the Huskers, because they regularly beat ou; but have since lost respect because all they do is whine about lossing to Texas (was it 9 out of 10). They get frustrated and do what their team did...pack up and leave. Okies, well they just can't stand coming here and having a Texas fan give them hell. I have my Texas-Ex sticker and Texas Longhorn bumper hitch cove on the car; plus I regularly wear something with a Longhorn logo. They are vulgar, nasty and as can be expected thin skinned. They bluster and posture, but like the Huskers they can't deal with the facts 59-42-5. The worst of all as can be imagined are the ags. "You guys have to have all the power, you're greedy for taking the $300 million, you can't play on a level field...blah, blah, blah. It goes on for ever until again the facts are brought out 76-37-5 and then they do their tail tuck and leave. One of my favorite run ins, is with those obnoxious people from Columbus, Ohio. They invented football, they are the greatest; but they also can't stand that Texas has a 66% winning average against their buck nuts.
It's fun to be a Horn and have the record book in our favor by far, more often than not. I'm wondering does anyone else live outside of the Holy Land and have to put up with all the haters? God it's great to be a Texas Longhorn. Hook'em

You honest to God live in Frisco and like Texas better? I am a native Texas and Longhorn and I have all of those biases but still. Colorado is a much better place to live.

I live in Colorado right now and I love to travel back to Texas for the football games. And then I love to come back home.

    Newy,
I understand, Colorado is one thing, but living in the mountains takes a toll. Frisco is a neat place but it is a fish bowl; the weather and snow seems never ending. One of the worst things is the tourist; I have no business in that industry so the're a pain in the ass to me. This is a very healthy place, but the tourist from all over the world bring their germs here, so everyone is sick half the season. It gets old, getting a flu like illness every year.

Denver is a great place and I could see living there; it has grown into a very sophisticated city with a pretty good football team. I do not miss the Texas heat or the humidity, but do miss the food and margaritas along with the University, the Longhorn games and some old friends in Austin. Come up and have a beer some day. • I live in LA. People don't really give two shits about college football.

    foosters galore

  • I lived in Denver for a year and a half. Great place, but the people, while nice, are definitely not Texas friendly. I love snowboarding, but me being more of a beach guy do not miss it much really.

  • I live about an hour east of LA and all I hear about is USC.....but like you when the talk crap all I say is VINCE to the 5...... TOUCHDOWN!!!!!

....so do I......So true about CFB fans out here. Not too many students/alums care as much. Though I do get a little static here and there from several USC grads for the 2005 NCG. Guess some will never get over it. biggrin

  • I live in Dallas and I am betting there is more hate in the media for UT here than most out of state places. When we are good, I like to listen to them . They can not stand it. The last two years they have poured it on. Looking forward to the next few years. Should shut them up.

  • Do you LA guys ever watch UT games at that bar in Manhattan Beach that is supposed to be a Horn friendly place? I was supposed to go there for the pre-game party before the BCS CG against USC, but I underestimated how long it would get there from North Hollywood in my rental car.

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

OMG - I just moved from Allen to Round Rock. It is so nice to be able to listen to sports radio again.

Never been there. I try to stay away from LA as much as possible. I guess is should make a correction, I live 56 miles east of LA which equals out to 30 hours of traffic.

I too am a native Texan and live in the Peoples Republic of Colorado - Highlands Ranch. The one thing I find better about Colorado is the weather. While it make snow one day it's just as likely to be 60 degrees the next. Seems like the weaather for wearing shorts is anything above freezing. And it does get hot in the summer, but the humidity is low and there is always a breeze. Lousy liberal newspaper - take the WSJ - and liberal politics - but I just ignore the dummies. Have found some decent Tex-Mex and the worst margarita I ever had was pretty good.
