  • I think it could have had an impact. Who can say except Kenny and maybe close family and friends.

Keaton McQuiston of Round Rock in 11.47 if that tells you anythin

Looks like I need to learn to read.

  • Classic. He may be small, but he is slow.

Taking vaccarro may have cost us a scholarship that we could use on a much better player this year, such as Maurice Smith

    Bingo.

It is unpleasant to say but Kevin Vaccaro is not going to see the field at Texas. That scholarship could have been used on someone else in this class.

...and Jerry Rice ran a 4.75 40 trying out for the pros.

sorry, but i'm not sure that's the best comparison.

Taking Vacarro ensured that we got one more year out of the best player on our team.

Kenny is not our best player IMO.

  • This is all bullshit and completely unfair to the kid...I checked on some of his times from his jr year and he ran an 11.2 in the 100 and 22.4 in the 200 as well as running 3rd leg on the 400 relay and anchor on the 4 x 200...

While this is not Adrian Colbert numbers, you don't play football based on 100 meter times...With this and what he did last summer in camp, I have no problem with Akina giving him a ship...and I guarantee you he will see the field during his time at Texas...maybe not as a starter but there are a lot of other roles he can play..,

Let's at least let him enroll before we take a flame thrower to him...

Granted 11.82 is not elite speed, but we are talking meters and the top time in the state is only 10.64. Nine of the top ten times are by 5A track specialists with the highest being 11.08. Kevin was second team all state and may or may not end up being a significant contributor, but if it had anything at all with Kenny coming back for his senior season it was worth the scholarship. He certainly wouldn't be the first recruit that ends up being practice fodder that doesn't see the field.

We have a lot of 4 stars like that now and a couple of 5 stars in the past that seldom saw the light of day. Lay off the kid and let him enjoy his senior year. We are well stocked at cornerback and safety.

I see that the top time in State in 2012 is a 10.45 (Tremayne Acy from Desoto). Not sure if there's a better site out there for up to date bests...

11.2 is pretty average. I'm sure it was late in season as well. Did he make it to regionals last year?

  • Kevin came on very high praise from Bob Shipley. He may have been the 3rd or 4th best player in a solid 3A district. I personally wasn't impressed watching and coaching against him in pads and 7 on 7, respectively. Texas coaches signed him, so we need to support him. In every class there are character takes and he probably one of them. You don't have to be a 3-4 year starter and be All-American/Conference to be a quality addition to any program.

Upvote X1000^^. This is a 16-17 year old kid who has a year and a half before he puts on a helmet for Texas. Let the kid finish puberty and have fun in H.S. before all the serious sh*t begins. Some offseason workouts and Bennie's training will help but you guys are grasping at straws for a kid who hasnt had the opportunity to prove himself in burnt orange... This sounds like some stuff I would read over at Shaggy.

AND.... I will continue to believe the evalutations of some of the posters here over our well paid, well trained, well respected, and experienced coachs. fingergun

    Statx98

  • Yeah, he made it to Regionals in the 2 relays and the 200...he did not make it to the finals in the 200 but did, I believe, in both relays...His team had the 2nd best prelim time in the 4 x 200 but finished 5th in the finals.

And please understand I have no skin in the game where he is concerned...All he needs is to come to his dream school with a clean slate and the rest is up to him...This and a recommendation from Bob Shipley is aces in my book...

  • To me Akina is so nails in DB evaluation that we'll have talent so taking Vaccarro as depth is fine.

The only danger is with Mack as HC you never know if Vaccarro will be depth. We just went through 4 years of sub par slow safety play and I don't want to have to do that again because Mack loves his gumption while he's guessing wrong holes and giving up TD runs. Hopefully he'll be a better player but that's the worry for me.

How is it completely unfair to a kid to scout him? Am I cruel to make the observation that he is short, light and not very fast?

That is not "taking a flame thrower" to him. It is doing what the conversations are intended for on this board: discussing recruiting prospects.

Your point taken and I agree on differing discussions on this board. You analyzed and have your opinion and I respect that...What I don't agree with is the statement he will never see the field.

And thanks for asking about my grip ...I have one and it's just fine...
