Just watched the T-Day game again

  • My Father's Day present to myself was watching the final Texas vs aggy game. All 3+ hours of it, in 55 diagonal inches of glorious high definition.

At first I started wishing Malcolm Brown had been full strength, and/or Joe Bergeron had been available to bulldoze through those ugly maroon jerseys, but then I realized that the shortcomings of that Texas team and the unwholesome setting of Kyle Field at Bat Guano Stadium contributed to the perfection which that game was. Whether it was our offensive ineptitude, the blatant holding and blocks to the back by the aggy Oline that constantly went uncalled, or the incomparable banality of Craig James, every aspect of that game that was by itself cause for consternation, collectively converged into a creation of singular, if flawed, beauty. The cumulative effect was one of most cathartic, transcendental experiences I've ever had watching a college football game.

So much so that I wasn't even phased by the nut-squeezing fake army goober flashing the upside down "Hook 'em" sign at 13:30 in the second quarter, much less the douche-first-class who did the same to Blaine Irby as he trotted along the back of the end zone several minutes later. In keeping with the holiday-era spirit of when the game was played, I just wished I'd been there in person to inform those poor afflicted souls that modern corrective surgery could help them with their limp wrists.

God, it's good to be a Longhorn!

11/24/11: 27-25, 76-37-5, a winning record at Kyle Field, and bragging rights 'til Gabriel blows his horn. Well...bye.

  • I watched the highlights the other day myself. Our defense was absolutely sick that night.

The look of defeat on Aggy after the game was over....worth a million dollars.

  • You're going to get criticized for talking about the team that shall not be named. You know...not rivals and such.

  • If Mike Davis doesn't slip on his break causing Onyegbule to hesitate and then throw a pick, we probably never need Case's scramble and the game ends with Aggy trying to recover an onside kick to have one las shot at us.

That the most satisfied I've felt since 45-35 as a UT fan, and I hope to never see our offense that impotent again.

I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.

Nah, its perfectably acceptable to reminesce about Texas' going away present to aggy.

  • The defense with Jeffcoat vs without Jeffcoat almost had the Aggies make the comeback.

Nothing taboo about A&M, it's just the combination of the way y'all left (blaming Texas for everything) and not having y'all on the future schedule diminishes the rivalry considerably. Pretending like y'all don't exist after we competed for over a century is silly, but acting like nothing's changed is just disingenuous.

FYI, I lurk on your boards from time to time (not just 24/7), and from what I see the stalker-ex syndrome is much more rampant among Ags than Horns. JMO, and thus worth what you paid for it.peace

IIRC Byndom was out the last drive and Phillips was on Fuller. Byndom had him shut down pretty much the entire game.

You may be right but moved it most of the fourth quarter and i felt like it was directly related to Jeffcoat's absence.

    Haha...just fun'n ya.

But if it's okay with you, I'll pass on watching that game again. I played the final drive back in slow-mo enough last November.

I hear you, man. Had we not pulled out the win, not only would I have deleted the game from my DVR, I likely would have ripped the stupid thing out of my entertainment center, beaten to pieces with a sledgehammer, and burned the remains until all that was left was a smoking pile of toxic sludge, which I would then have mailed to Mack Brown (c/o Deloss Dodds) with postage due. Just makes it that much sweeter that it didn't come to all that.

  • Does anybody know if they sell that game on dvd? It would be nice to have a history.of the series and then the full game at the end.
