Wish I could feel optimistic about him picking the 'Horns, but I can't.

Just for a positive spin on it, I'll point out that Kevin Durant says "yessir" on twitter all the time.

So does Kevin Sumlin.

Man everyone got on me when I said he wasn't coming. Gerry says he is playing close to the vest. So I will wait and see. The only real question is how far is he willing to play away from his mom.

It takes a lot of things to go your way to make a deep run in the tournament. Whether it be getting a favorable seed/path through your bracket, favorable calls, having the great teams in your bracket getting upset, or going on a hot streak like UConn did two seasons ago. It's more than just being on a team full of 5 star recruits. While having a team with a roster stocked full of stars like Kentucky or Kansas may increase your chances, those other factors I mentioned above play a big role. While Kentucky last year may have disproved that somewhat, I still believe a team with experience, toughness, and a mix of talented scorers and role players will win out more often than not.

He can come to Texas and join a team that is young but getting better. They need a scorer or two to take that next step. He will be the top dog on the team, and the past has shown that freshman at Texas can and will get national recognition. If he's going to play for one season, and then bounce to the NBA, it doesn't really matter what school he goes to because the NBA already knows about him. Go to Texas, be the top dog that helps this team take the next step, play in front of friends and family, enjoy your only year in a great city, and then move onto the NBA. If his favorite school growing up was Texas, why not make that be the school you attend for a year? When he's looking back at this when he's older, he'll be able to look back and say that he's glad he made the decision to go to his home-state school, a school with more to it than just an expedited NBA factory like Kentucky.
