  • Here are some pictures I took of Shreveport evangel DE Jermauria Rasco in June at Evangel High School. Now that we are up and running, here you go.

    Thoughts on Rasco:
For me, one of the best defensive players in the country. He is versatile and advanced technically. He can play technique with either hand (either side) effectively. He has a lot of flexibility, he turns the corner with a low inside shoulder, maintains balance and can close on the quarterback. He has a quick first step and an array of pass rushing moves. He has been very well coached by Evangel Christian DC Byron Dawson, who played at defensive tackle Evangel and LSU.

He has the physical ability and more importantly, has the mental capacity/understanding of what is being taught and how to translate that teaching onto the field successfully. Some guys are just football player pure and simple. Rasco is one of those.

  • And here is the next in line at Shreveport Evangel...2013 LB X'zavier Preston. Preston is 5-10.5/5-11 and was near 220-pounds in June. His coaches say he is fierce hitter, who is so aggressive he has to be dialed back at times. Kid was very fluid and quick in drills. Said to run in the low 4.6's. You want to talk about impressive on the hoof, here you go.

  • As far as Rasco's recruitment, I do believe Texas is in a good spot right now. I also think there is a long ways to go and he will take official visits and maybe all five. Texas, FSU, Alabama and LSU should be four that get visits. Notre Dame is another school that I think has a chance to get an official if he decides to take a visit or two outside the region.

  • Should have added that Rasco is very violent with the hands too, which is another strength of his.

That is a very cool feature, haven't seen that anywhere else.

  • Gerry, what is an accurate height/weight on Rasco.

He is a legit 6'3 and was 240'ish when I was there in JUne. I'll get a weight answer tonight for you as I'm interested too.

Need to see him in a game, but I think so based on talking to the Evangel staff about his future.

Any talk of which schools interest him? I realize he is young, but sometimes kids have an idea at that point.

  • How do you compare Rasco to Reed? There have been rumblings that a Rasco commit could mean Reed opens up his recruiting, and I'm curious if you have one rated more highly than the other or if both are similar talents.

Not yet, but I was told Texas knows about him. I'll find out next trip through Evangel.

So he'll probably play at 265ish when he gets into an elite D1 s&c program. What's the likelihood on him committing to Texas, or is LSU the team to beat?

I really think Texas is in a good spot right now, but there is a long ways to go on this one. Florida State did very well for themselves when he visited, but distance from home could factor in there. Alabama and LSU in there too.

Playing with his hand on the ground is key for him. He doesn't have a real interest in playing a standup LB in a 3-4 at this point.

  • Can definitely see how he and Reed would project to weak and strong.

Also didn't know Pau Gasol was a member of Evangel's football team. Who is that giant in the background?

Rasco's current weight is 250-pounds. He carries it very well. Looked 235'ish when I was there in June, but he was bigger than that.

  • Thanks Gerry. I remember reading that he was 220 or in that vicinity as a sophomore. I was a little concerned if he could carry legitimate D.E. weight, but obviously he can.

He was at 244 at the end of sophomore year when he and Tank Jackson tore it up at the Rice NFTC along with Cayleb Jones.
