Jarvis Moss has a workout with the Cowboys today

  • Former elite recruit from Denton Ryan and first round pick out of Florida is getting to work out with the Cowboys today. Dallas is looking for a way to Marcus Spears loose and Moss would count significantly less towards the salary cap.

  • Didn't they already franchise Spears again?

It really doesn't matter what the Cowboys do. They keep mortgaging their future to work around the cap by restructuring deals. That always pushes their cap hits down the line and ruins the next seasons while tying themselves to players who underperform because they can't afford to cut them and take the cap hit. It's such a terribly run organization in every facet.

    They franchised Spencer, not Spears.

  • Bryan Broaddus just reported the Cowboys would not sign Moss at this time.

  • There is a great medical miss management story behind Moss. Probably cost the kid millions. Truly rare edge speed with great length coming into his senior year in high school, but then all lost two years plus with a mysterious hip ailment that was iatrogenic in etiology and misdiagnosed until his sophomore year at Florida. Speaks to how good of an athlete he was to still be a first round pick; but he honestly should have developed into a top five NFL pick.

  • Back to modern day. The Cowboys are going to have to remake their defensive line to move to a 4-3. They should be okay at linebacker. Carter can move to WSL. Lee is a classic Mike. They have several candidate for SLB. Presumably Spears will move inside and figure into the DT rotation. Ratliff will be in the DT rotation as well. But that's about it on the interior. Ware will play exclusively with his hand on the ground at WDE. That leaves the need for three more D.E.'s. Spencer probably isn't worth franchise money going into next year. At this point, he isn't mobile enough to play strong side backer in a 4-3 and would only back-up Ware at WSE. So there is a nice piece of cap-room.

Its probably a given that the Cowboys will use their #1 on the D.L.; probably at tackle, but they need someone for the strong-side D.E. as well. That, and an interior offensive lineman are their primary needs for the short term. Jerry also needs to find a Q.B. to start grooming for 2015.

  • He'll be lazy in Dallas like he was everywhere else.
