Bobby, do you or Jeff, any staff, ever talk to deloser? I just want to know how he answers a hard question about this. And does he care , that people such as myself, if I had the power would see that his butt is FIRED over this crap? Just wondering.

Lets take a step back for a minute. Deloss has done a wonderful job improving the facilities at UT. He has vastly improved our branding, our finances and has done a good job with coaching hires and overall program quality. The deep pocketed alumni, the President of UT, the BOD and the faculty all admire and support him.

Deloss understands that people are upset when they don't get to see games. I have heard him say on more then one occasion that he would love for ESPN to back off of their terms a little in order to get the channel picked up by providers.

Why doesn't he put money where his mouth is and negotiate a lower payment terms for ESPN in exchange for lower asking price and gaining carriage in more households nationwide?

Oh right, he wouldn't love it THAT much. Deloss is a great businessman and great with finances, but those types tend to miss the forest through the trees at times. Sometimes it's ok to get less money now to gain more benefit later.

Yes, it definitely "starts" here. It could also change, or at least "restart" here.

Yet Dodds is willingly allowing ESPN to screw the fans so we can't see games that were readily available.

I refuse to believe ESPN is doing anything on the LHN (in terms of broadcasting football games) without UT (i.e. Dodds) approval.

I understand why people are angry, I honestly don't think Deloss is out to screw over Texas fans...ESPN on the other hand. Belief is not a prerequisite for truth, just saying.

  • The funny part is they have no leveraging power, surely not games that include Wyoming and new Mexico. the gripes of a single fan base mean nothing.

Yet the end result is the majority is being screwed.
Second year in a row. Where will we be next year and 3 years from now?
What's going to change? Direct TV and Dish played hardball with Viacom channels and AMC and allowed them to go dark for 9 days.
There is no backup plan so Deloss has painted himself into a corner and the masses suffer.

    On our own network too.

That being said, how are voters going to compare you guys accurately if they cant see you play? You wont be seen by all the voters until you play Ole Miss.

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.

From 2004-2010 only 4 gams fell to tier 3. Now 4 or more in a 2 year span have not been picked up by tier 1 or 2 tv partners and based on your post ut or espn had no part in this?

Or are you sayIng espn is paying off ut to put games on the LHN that don't need to be on there? That was my thought on this.

Don't even get me started on my rant that no football game should ever be on the LHN.

This right here. If LHN was just picking up third tier games, so be it. But that is not what is happening. ESPN is purposely manipulating the pick-up process to push games to third tier that wouldn't otherwise be there. In my view, there is a huge business ethics conflicts here that ESPN is using their other businesses to further this even though it would be in the best interest of those other business to pick up the UT games at the first or second tier.

If your trying to make me feel better it's not working. I’m sure this is brilliant, but I can’t understand how not being on TV when your two biggest rivals (ou & a&m ) will have their games shown is a recruiting tool. Maybe it’s like health care and you have to be a Longhorn before your family can see you play.

    $ Themselves Fans

Texas does care about the fans, maybe too much. ESPN cares about getting their channel picked up for distribution. You need to separate what Texas wants and what ESPN wants.

If Texas cared about the fans this would be a done deal already. This was never about the fans its was about money and exposure.

Texas is contractually obligated to show 1 game on LHN, but are volunteering a 2nd game to further use the fans as leverage in the deal. The part they aren't counting on is the fans being smart enough to know that's what's going on and firing back right at Bellmont. Deloss knows he's screwing the fans/alumni but when it comes to some more money he doesn't care.

Exactly. If this was about the fans or even about the sports/athletes and exposure to a national audience the Deloss would have taken 5 to 10 mil or so a year and demanded wide spread carriage nationally even if it meant giving it away for 7 cents a sub.

The opposite is true all because it's all and only about the money.

  • BTW, I called Grande Communications today since I had heard that they were expanding into South Austin. The CSR said that in my zip code, they were only servicing apartment complexes. She had no idea when they would start hooking up houses. So, it looks like I'll be hunting for tickets for Wyoming and NM.
