Probably?
The recruiting momentum from beating one of the most hyped teams in history in one of the greatest games in history w/ a dynamic leader like Vince Young, should have had us getting the top recruits for at least three years after that game. Instead we got fat and lazy.

"On the ropes" with just under 11 minutes to play in the first quarter? Tap the brakes, pard. Texas was doing well and had momentum at the point, but it's a big stretch to say Alabama was "on the ropes" at the time. It sucked that Colt got hurt and the game certainly would have been different with him in there instead of GG. But there was way too much game left to play when he got hurt to say that Bama was "on the ropes."

"stayed right" implies that someone or something led Ramonce astray after he got to Austin. The fact is that RT was always one of those people parents warn their kids to stay away from. It was reported that one of his high school coaches actually warned Mack Brown not to recruit RT at all. That's not something you hear about very often.

It would have been 14-0 with 11 minutes in the first and Colt said he read their defense like a book. It would've been over. Instead of running all day, McElroy would've had to pass and as we saw, he would've been picked to pieces. It would've been ugly and fast. But alas, it wasn't in the cards.

Damn, I guess you must make a killing in Vegas since you apparently know with 100% certainty what would happen if the facts were changed.
Would the game have been different? No question -- by definition, having a different QB in there would have made the ballgame different. But nobody really knows for sure what the ultimate outcome would have been. Certainly having McCoy would have enhanced UT's chances enormously, and maybe a healthy McCoy carves up Alabama as you posit. Or maybe the Bama defense adjusts after the first drive or two, and starts making life hell on him like Nebraska did just a few weeks prior to that. I'd like to think it would have been the former, but there's way of knowing for sure.
Look, nobody was more upset than me when McCoy got hurt. (If he was reading Bama's defense like a book, it makes me wonder why he kept the ball on the play on which he was hurt.) I was at the game and Texas definitely had the momentum at the time of his injury, having forced a turnover and driven down inside the Bama 20. The timing of his injury couldn't have been worse. But those are the breaks, unfortunately. And his injury came early enough in the game that it's a mistake to say Alabama was "on the ropes."
I hope that Texas gets Bama back in the NC game one of these coming seasons, and the Horns can exact some revenge.
