It will never get old

  • I bet I watch this video once a month. My gosh the athletes on that team........the offense was loaded with guys that could just pick em up and put em down. I love to watch the feet of guys like Vince, Ramonce, and Charles.

  • Watched the 4th quarter this morning.

If Cayleb Jones can jump like Sweed (I've heard he can), we have a serious red zone threat.

  • Still can't believe that after that season, Texas recruited away from the dual-threat QB.

Had Texas recruited Griffin, Texas probably kills Alabama in 2009, and 2010-2011 are 10+ win seasons.

    Probably?

The recruiting momentum from beating one of the most hyped teams in history in one of the greatest games in history w/ a dynamic leader like Vince Young, should have had us getting the top recruits for at least three years after that game. Instead we got fat and lazy.

  • I don't care how many time I have seen 4th and 5 in the national championship game.. I still get chill bumps when Vince tucks it and runs in for the TD! rockon

I swear to you this is not hindsight or revisionist history on my part, but when I was an everyday caller to Bill King's morning show and we would be on the subject of recruiting, I would ask him repeatedly why it seemed Texas' NC didn't seem to produce the spike in recruiting momentum, especially nationally, that should follow a run like that.

To the OP, I agree, this vid never gets old. It was exceptionally well made. I also like the one titled "Texas Passion"

That was (one ) incredibly potent offensive machine. Sad we could not maintain the momentum. Also sad that we had not developed any depth behind VY then either although his leaving had something to do with that. Colt came in as a RF and took two years to get his bearings.

Regarding dual-threat QBs. Only excuse I can find is Colt came along and just blew everyone--me included away--with the 77% completion rate. We paid dearly trying to get Colt (# two) in GG. But in all fairness, everyone was totally for it. Who knew.

If McCoy doesn't get hurt, we trounce Bama. We had them on the ropes when he went down.

Bama had a better team, not better individual talent, but team than Texas did that night. I agree, with McCoy, Texas probably wins by 10, but we should not have depended so much on McCoy to win a championship. Bama's gameplan was to take McCoy out so they could win. They succeded and they won. Period. Im not saying I was second guessing the staff leading up to that game, I wasn't. I was in the wagon with everyone else. That is the beauty of hindsight though. Glad Mack has shifted the team to a less Qb centric one since. I look forward to the continued transformation. I want Texas winning 24-14 or 17-13 games from now on and not 45-35. This new philosophy won't cost us as many CCs or NC chances as the prior one did.

If Jamal and Jermichael stayed in 08, Texas would have destroyed everyone on that schedule. OU wouldn't have gotten that record because we would've blown it out of the water. If RT was there too, it would have to be considered one of the best teams ever if not the best and that's without a good OL. RT and JF could've been on the 09 teams too.

"On the ropes" with just under 11 minutes to play in the first quarter? Tap the brakes, pard. Texas was doing well and had momentum at the point, but it's a big stretch to say Alabama was "on the ropes" at the time. It sucked that Colt got hurt and the game certainly would have been different with him in there instead of GG. But there was way too much game left to play when he got hurt to say that Bama was "on the ropes."

"stayed right" implies that someone or something led Ramonce astray after he got to Austin. The fact is that RT was always one of those people parents warn their kids to stay away from. It was reported that one of his high school coaches actually warned Mack Brown not to recruit RT at all. That's not something you hear about very often.

It would have been 14-0 with 11 minutes in the first and Colt said he read their defense like a book. It would've been over. Instead of running all day, McElroy would've had to pass and as we saw, he would've been picked to pieces. It would've been ugly and fast. But alas, it wasn't in the cards.

They were told the same thing on Erik Hardeman. Mack didn't listen. To me they were worth taking a chance on after watching the choir boys we recruited on offense

Damn, I guess you must make a killing in Vegas since you apparently know with 100% certainty what would happen if the facts were changed.

Would the game have been different? No question -- by definition, having a different QB in there would have made the ballgame different. But nobody really knows for sure what the ultimate outcome would have been. Certainly having McCoy would have enhanced UT's chances enormously, and maybe a healthy McCoy carves up Alabama as you posit. Or maybe the Bama defense adjusts after the first drive or two, and starts making life hell on him like Nebraska did just a few weeks prior to that. I'd like to think it would have been the former, but there's way of knowing for sure.

Look, nobody was more upset than me when McCoy got hurt. (If he was reading Bama's defense like a book, it makes me wonder why he kept the ball on the play on which he was hurt.) I was at the game and Texas definitely had the momentum at the time of his injury, having forced a turnover and driven down inside the Bama 20. The timing of his injury couldn't have been worse. But those are the breaks, unfortunately. And his injury came early enough in the game that it's a mistake to say Alabama was "on the ropes."

I hope that Texas gets Bama back in the NC game one of these coming seasons, and the Horns can exact some revenge.

"On the ropes" works for me.

The first thing Colt said to his Dad when he walked in the locker room to check on him was, "I knew what they were going to do before they knew Dad."

Colt would have picked them apart.

Also, I forget the Bama's QB's name but he was hurt (something Saban managed to keep secret) - he could barely throw - Bama get's behind early by a couple TD's and they're in a world of hurt - "on the ropes" if you will - not beat, but certainly close to it.

Hell, even with GG we're what 3 pts down with a couple minutes to play.
