Is the Heisman still credible?

  • After the Bush/Vince fiasco , you have to wonder if the award really goes to the best player.

Vince lost the Heisman due to a poor effort against atm. And the Bush game against Fresno State IMO.

  • The heisman lost all credibility a long time ago; it has nothing to do with the VY/Bush fiasco. It's nothing more than a who's popular right that minute award. I haven't watched the award since '05 (i only watched it because VY was in it).

"Pavlov was this scientist guy, you know, and every time this dog would ring a bell, Pavlov would eat."

  • Diggsy, I don't think that's why Vince lost the Heisman. The reason he lost the Heisman is because Espn had an agenda to make it go to Bush. All you heard morning, noon and night was, "is Reggie Bush the greatest of all time?". They pounded the idea over and over until the stupid coaches and media types followed like rats to a slaughter in voting for Bush. I might add one of those stupid media types included our illustrious Chip Brown - the douch!

If the Heisman is to ever become what it once was, all voting should happen AFTER all games, which includes all bowl games. Also these people who have votes should be more scrutinized before allowing them to cast a vote. The Heisman is nothing more than a beauty contest anymore. Who ever heard of a person getting the Heisman trophy with 3 loses? Pitiful I tell you. If Vince Young couldn't get one there is no way in hell Griffith should be honored with one.

Agreed. I tend to think it goes to the flashy player who puts up the most inflated stats on the "IT" team at the end of the season. It has nothing to do with being the best player anymore. Last year they just happened to get it right with Cam Newton. I hated VY not getting his, but honestly I stopped watching the moment they handed that joke of an award to Baby Jebus Timmy Teblow. 75% of his rushing touchdowns that year would go to a running back or fullback in an offense not dedicated to padding teblow's stats. he was so great that he lead his ridiculously talented team to a 9-4 record that year. His Heisman is the biggest travesty i can recall related to that award, aside from Gino Torretta. There was just no excuse for him to win.

  • Herschel Walker should have won 3 Heisman trophy awards and only has one. I bet there are instances of ridiculousnous before that as well.

It's been a farce for awhile.

It's really an ESPN award. They decide by constant publicity who gets the trophy.

    truth.

  • Let's see...Gino Torreta beat out Marshall Faulk. Archie Grifffin beat out Sweetness. The Heisman has been a popularity contest forever.

  • Jason White, Chris Weinke, Troy Smith. The Heisman hasn't been credible since Earl Campbell won it.

  • best player never wins the trophy. it doesn't even have a criteria, can anyone tell me what's the criteria to win the award? is it the best player, most valuable player, best player on best team, or most popular player? seems like it's all of those things depending on who you ask.

  • "The outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity."

The part about integrity had me laughing when I remembered who won the award last year.

    Rivver

  • "The outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity."

Troy Smith - suspended for taking $500 handshake
    Reggie Bush - forfeit
Cam Newton - burglar & recruiting crook
    etc.

why does espn get to decide who gets the heisman & who plays in the national champion ship game.
every week there announcers would be putting some one right at the top of there heisman list for making
    a 1st down.
all they talked about for the past mo. was alabama-lsu And look what we got-rematch
also paul horung was only player to win heisman that played on a losing team

    bevo1944

  • I'm not sure if it was a coach or an analyst, but some fool said he wouldn't vote Griffin #1 because sec defenses would tear him up.

How f'n retarded is that? When that kind of talk and thoughts come up, the Heisman loses credibility.

The bcs and Heisman are becoming an "opinions" event. The numbers no longer matter...or so it seems.

  • Just look at the heisman winners the past decade! Its a joke
