Important update on LHN games

  • I spoke with a representative. I also sent a tweet to @LonghornNetwork asking if it was true, and a Charter representative responded "I hope you enjoy the new channel! Let us know @Charter if you ever need help!"

  • FYI - I don't know which game it would be of the first two of the year if they were to only pick one. However, I am told that two games are still the number but they are "thinking about" moving it to 1 based on some discussions.

I am told that the negative reaction from fans and donors to the possibility of three games being on the LHN has been enough that the Texas athletic department may sink its heels into the sand and only allow one game to be on the LHN, which is all the Longhorns are contractually obligated for.

As of now, there is still expected to be two games on the LHN (Wyoming and New Mexico) with the possibility of a third (Baylor). But I am told that the negative feedback is something the powers that be are considering.

Funny how things start moving when the donors get pissed. Screw the average fan.

  • Dear Longhorn Fan:
Thanks for your note. We share our fans' frustration at the slow progress of additional clearances for LHN (beyond Verizon/Fios and Grande Communications). ESPN is working very hard with carriers to encourage them to carry LHN. Business deals must be negotiated and struck by ESPN with each carrier.

Now that is just wrong. Consolidated here in the Woodlands/Conroe area has it. There are so few-to be left off is an insult.

  • I hope the Wyoming game is televised. New Mexico wouldnt win the state high school title in most states.

I hope that your information is correct as I live in Trophy Club and have Charter. I've tried calling them and asking but couldn't get an agent on the phone. :(

Yep. This is what I thought too.

  • Won't this just further hurt the chances of LHN being picked up by additional carriers? I get the frustration of fans but the less the channel has to offer, especially in terms of live desirable content, the less likely it becomes available to more of us.

  • I wouldn't rely upon ANYTHING the customer services reps at the carriers say re: the LHN being available. AT&T told me last year that they would "definitely" carry the LHN by the first game. The call center people have no idea what's going on.

  • Just got off the phone with Charter and was put on hold forever while he went to try and find me an answer. Came back and said that at this time it was not scheduled to be picked up on that date but that did not mean that it would not be picked up, only that it wasn't on the schedule.

Honestly it might, but having 3 games on wouldn't speed things along either. What would speed things along is ESPN dropping this ridiculous 40 cents per for basic or expanded basic level and pricing it more in accordance with ESPNU, probably around 18 cents a sub.

If a carrier tells you the LHN will be available at a certain date, I would take it with a big grain of salt. While my parents were deciding between Direct TV and Dish for their new house last August, they decided on Direct TV because the sales person for Direct TV assured them it would be announced within the week that the LHN would be available before the Rice game. I am sure he had a good laugh about that right after he got off the phone.

I was told basically the same thing prior to last season. At what point does false/misleading advertising come into play?

What's your impressions of Consolidated? I live in the same area and currently have Suddenlink. I have to admit I'm somewhat reluctant of switching providers for one channel, but I'm going to go ahead and look into it.

If their will only be one game on the LHN what will it be?

Since I can't make it to Austin for the first game, I want to Wyoming game to be on TV (FSN/ESPN) so I can see the 'D' go to work! New Mexico game will get ugly fast...

i would guess the majority of the fans want LHN, but above all else they just want to see the games. Personally, I don't care who's fault it is, greed on ESPN's side or the carrier's side, I just want to see Texas play. I had no trouble seeing ALL the games before the LHN.
