I'm gonna support Mack

  • Listen, noone has been more critical of Mack Brown than I. I attended three games this year where I had some of the worst times I've ever had attending a football game (OU, TCU, KU). But the guy is coming back next year. Period. I think he's going to try to ride Major and Wyatt and some defensive talent (Brown, Jinkens, Diggs, etc.) next year...I see a return to the spread and using our speed and allowing our superior athletes to win football games...and it may work. So, I'm in. I hate to say it, but this win and the new offensive philosophy has me in...Damn it, I'm in.....Hook em.

We'll see. He has to prove it, before anyone should be fully bought in.

what choice do we have? If it were my choice, regardless of tonight, I'd like a new head coach...but, we have what we have...maybe it will work...it's worked in the past...maybe Ash can be developed into a stud QB...he took a step tonight, did he not?

  • I support the kids and the university no matter who the HC is so don't feel the need to start a "I support Mack Brown" thread.

    Just one posters opinion.

I hear you...I probably shouldn't have started this damn thread...but damnit, what's the choice...we might as well support the fat fu&**er......he did turn Major loose in the second half and the D did stop the run in the second half...so, what the hell. I support the fat f*(*ck....Damnit.

Good for you! It's a lot more fun to cheer for the team, than to wallow in negativity and misery. It's like you've been re-born!

  • I'll probably get slammed for this but I remember after the Cal game last year. I'll wait and until Mack proves it.... I'll just wait and see.
    Not gettin my hopes up...

  • maybe, just maybe, we can have a great group of seniors that will work hard, demand toughness and excellence and refuse to accept excuses. if they take on those responsibilities, they can address Mack' s weaknesses for him. then Mack gets his wins and we get a smooth transition next year.

that would address most of our weaknesses, except for iaz....

  • This team would still get drilled by OU. Until they win that game my excitement will be tempered.

  • F**k that. I'm done supporting Mack Brown. He underacheives more than any coach with as much resources as he has at his disposal. A win in the Alamo Bowl means very little. Good for Major, though. It was nice to see him cut his teeth in a bowl game.

I've been trending that direction since I sat in the cotton bowl last October, for sure. The way they won last night gives me some hope. The key question is did we find us a championship QB? That hasn't been answered in finality and won't be till October but it trended positively last night. So, I'm going to give it a shot. Bring it for me, Mack Brown!!!!

    81horn

  • I've been trying to spread some positivity, or reality, in these parts for a while and I was seriously concerned after the first half. Thank goodness for the adjustments and the second half turn around or I'ld either be coming accross as a hypocrit or being eating some serious crow. This win was critical and Mack's boys pulled it out.

Listen, I get where you're coming from, but the reality is that corch Brown isn't going to get anything. The man has literally used up whatever coaching prowess he had when Colt left. We've yet to see what Major can do throughout an entire season, and we all know the OU game is just another game to Mack. Believe me, I would love more than anything to be proven wrong, but I just don't see it happening, bro.

I'm not going to continue with the fire Mack Brown BS because I think every single person on here knows where I stand. However, I will say this- Don't buy into the hype unless you're ready for a let down. Mack isn't bringing this team back.

  • I'm ok with that take, Kelso. No one should be watching things with blinders on. But there's some hope and it comes to me from Applewhite/Wyatt and some damn good athletes on defense (Brown, Jinkens, Diggs, Jackson, Reed et al). I see a chance all that can overcome Mack's deficiencies.

    81horn

  • I feel just the opposite.

I got on here to bump my favorite thread only to find it locked.

I'm not too happy about it either.

  • I'm optomistic to a point, trust me. We have so many talented players on this team that it's disturbing we've lost as many games as we have. Applewhite had me nervous in the beginning, but he let it loose in the second half, so hopefully that will follow into next season.

The defense, however, scares me to death ;)

  • Maybe the best circumstance would be for Texas to have a great year next year with the talent as you mentioned, to give cover for Mack to retire with honor

I hope they have a great year, but my concern is that they lose another year to poor coaching and what happens to recruiting.

I think what has me nervous is did Applewhite let it loose in the second half OR was he allow to let it loose because we were 10 points down and the running game wasn't going to catch up. What I'm trying to say, the first half looked like Mack Brown and GD. Applewhite appeared to be shackled. Will Applewhite ever be allowed to be Applewhite next year as long as Mack is there. Mack has controlled Major his whole life at Texas and I don't see that ever changing. I think we will see alot of conservative Mack Brown play calling next year and when we get behind we might not always be able to catch back up and pull it out of the fire. OU will without a doubt have our number as Stoops knows Mack's play calling very well.

  • I'll support him because he's the head coach of the University of Texas. And as long as the next guy isn't a d*** I'll support him too.

I don't get an actual vote on the matter so what good does it do me to be a negative jerk or make myself miserable over the matter?
