I'm Done With This Defense....

  • They're nothing special and will get their stuff pushed for the remainder of the season.

We apparently didn't appreciate Robinson and Acho's play enough.

  • The DC's game plan was really stupid. What does every high school DC do against a QB who is starting his 2nd game and has a really good running game behind him? STACK THE BOX. Duhh.

    3rdGenHorn

  • Agreed! Poor tackling, missed assignments and not getting off blocks! I'm not looking forward to Geno Smith next week! Glad to have the win though! Congratulations to David Ash and the offense! Hookem!

Well it maybe would have helped had the defense aligned themselves better tonight.

The LB core is just too green. Acho and Robinson covered up a lot last year, man they were really freaking good.

  • I think the whole i don't care what the score is as long as it's 1 pt more than the other team might be taken a bit too literally by the defensive guys.

  • How many touchdowns did we hold this team under their eventual season average?

    Two? Three?

It's not that. It's the explosive plays. Texas has already given up more 50+ yard plays in 4 games this season than they did all of last year, or is very close to it.

That's the biggest issue I see, that and blitzing on 3rd and long. Trust your AA DE(s) and play coverage.

Maybe but look at who they played. Our D is not an elite squad. Period.

  • Diaz puts players in bad positions. OSU had huge running lanes due to the way the lines up the defense.

Osu had huge running lanes because Moore and Hicks were out and our LBs were running with their motion man.

  • you have to give credit to OSU because those were spread designed runs to take advantage of vacancies in space left in the defense knowing that when you send a man in motion a LB will always go with him.

Yes and the OSU OC had a nice counter when Texas started to shut down Randle. Going to the same side with the designed QB runs. Have to give that guy credit he attacked the weakness over and over again that was the gapping hole by the guys who replaced Hicks.

With a true frosh QB getting his first start of his career?

Look, it's not a sin to let a spread team move the ball on you. It happens. I can deal with that. It is a sin to miss tackles leading to explosive plays and touchdowns. It's a sin to let WR's get behind the secondary on 3rd and 16 from the minus 8 yard line. It is a sin to let one player run the same play to the same side against your team with near impunity for nearly 3 quarters.

We were boned on the kick out of bounds call. It clearly touched the OSU player, and his body language said "I f'ed up!" from the second the ball was redirected to after it went out of bounds. We busted a well placed directional kick coverage, and we shanked a punt. We didn't do our defense a lot of favors, but they couldn't stop a wet fart this evening. That wasn't Brandon Weeden and Blackmon torching our defense.

I'll say this, outside of AP's two egregious whiffs, our tackling was considerably better though our ability to get off blocks was suspect and we were out of position time and time again.

Diaz scheme is so flawed. Ol has easy angle blocks as blitzes too much and does't put enough defenders in the box when they have 2 backs in the backfield.

With the way the offense has developed we can win the big 12 if our defense doesn't stink it up. I realize OSU is an explosive offense. However, it was too easy for OSU to move the ball with the athletes we have.

  • Tonite was first night i ever saw two defensive players follow a rb in motion...the tackling and assignment issues are middle school problems

We knew we had issues at LB, but we were supposed to be deep at DT. I'm not sure Moore really helps us there. He gets his shoulders turned sideways about as easily as Kyle Kreigel did.

I'm just wondering if we played so vanilla because of the youth at LB and secondary issues or if it was in some half brain dead attempt to let Walsh self destruct against our vaunted secondary. I tell you this much. That kid is going to be a pain in our backsides for the next three years.

Maybe Gundy will go back to Lunt when he is better. He does have a history of making some strange QB decisions.

  • Our defense now <<<<<< pre-season hype

    I am very disappointed

Yeah supposedly the OC likes Lunt more. Not sure why, as Walsh makes a defense have to defend 11 on 11.

  • Every team WVU included will continue to gash us if our LB's crash the gap on every snap and immediately take themselves out of the play. Santo's and Edmonds do a decent job of tackling when they haven't run themselves out of the play which is usually almost every down. Unfortunately most of our defense has zero confidence in themselves right now.

  • How do you put 8 in the box against 4 wides?

    Walsh is a redshirt freshman.

How can Diaz scheme be too risky and we should be loading the box also? You can't have it both ways.

    El General

  • I share your concern on the D. But, man, this one feels good especially because I feel like we found a quarterback.

True, but it would take a lot more than that for me to be "done" with them. I've been through quite a bit worse than that with them.

The ligaments in their knees are a little too well-oiled. Lots of knee-jerk hyperbole going around.
