If I were in Mack's shoes I stay away from the Stoops' coaching tree: Mangino, Wyatt, Leach. Keep it simple: Major Applewhite, for the win.

Bostad would be my #1 choice for o-line, but would he even be interested? Isn't he from Wisky, as well as his family loves Wisky?

Malzahn is the guy you want. Young, innovative, good recruiter, and can adapt his scheme to his personnel. He turned Chris Todd of Auburn from one of the worst Division 1 quarterbacks I have ever seen into a pretty good player in just one year. Plus, he would instantly help the Texas ground game as the stats below bare out:
Arkansas 2006 - 4th in the nation in rushing
Tulsa 2007 - 5th in the nation in rushing
Auburn 2008 - 13th in the nation in rushing
Auburn 2009 - 6th in the nation in rushing

At Arkansas he was under Nutt, so he left. Makes sense to me. From Tulsa to AUburn is an upward move...makes sense to me. Auburn to Texas would be another upward move.

In all seriousness, If it is a run first spread guy, can't say we even have a QB on roster to do that... That is why I like Malzahn. He has shown that he can adapt to his personal and still be successful. He didn't need Cam Newton who is the closest clone to VY I have seen, in order to put up great offensive stats.

Won't speak for Gerry or Bobby and I don't necessarily think you're wrong but there are QB's on the roster who are better suited to run that style of offense better than Gilbert.
