I hate the SEC

Saying Dan Beebe is the reason there is no college playoff is like saying Texas forced Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and Texas A&M to leave the the big 12.

Well from what I have heard Texas is the reason those teams left they were tired of getting longhorn leftovers. Texas pissed everyone off and they left, The longhorn network just sent them over the edge. If that's not right why did they leave, they were tired of getting beat all the time right.

The worst part is, they have 1-2 good teams, the rest couldn't hold the top 5 in the big 12's jock. I would have loved to see OSU matchup against L$U, and maybe that is why the SEC pushed hard, so they could guarantee another NC. Because God forbid OSU run LSU off the field, that wouldn't be right in their eyes

This. And the fact that people spout off bowl records is another reason I hate the system. What does a bowl mean? It means I got a month to prepare for some team. Some coaches use it to really concentrate on beating the opponent. Some take it as a time to really get in extra practices without the distraction of games, like an extra spring practice. Bowl games, including the championship are not an indicator of how good or bad teams are. There's too much time between them and the actual happenings of the season. Heck, I think if the 2005 team only has to wait a week or two to play USC, they absolutely destroy them. If you can't tell I hate the bowl system almost as much as I hate "The Chase".

I will assume you are a Vol and will say you simply put this in terms you can understand because you simply cannot understand Texas A&M. They act without reason or thought and are usually not successful at it. I guess imagine Auburn without the actual success. Not having success would instead of giving them a fighting spirit, would instead give them the mentality of blaming everything on Alabama as well as simply rejecting the success of anyone around them. Like serious thoughts that regardless of record or history that they are the better team, with the better players, better facilities, better coaches and the better program with a better history. Its interesting and telling that they already can chant SEC, when they have never been close to this mentality with the Big XII. It reeks of a bandwagon move, and they will use it to again, say they are better than others simply because they are in the SEC. Auburn on the other hand would fight to be as good as Alabama in actual reality. Look how hard Ok St has fought to get out of OU's shadow. A&M could easily do the same. They are a richer school than every school in the SEC and Big XII except for Texas. They have the resources. They just have to do it and they haven't. That's our fault for some reason. I look at Missouri in the same way. They see themselves as Kansas or Kentucky in basketball, but they aren't. They have been talking of running to the Big 10 forever instead of competing and getting better. They simply see themselves as belonging somewhere else and that's the Big XII's fault.

Ha! I love it. Perhaps if Texas would schedule an SEC team now and then I would give you this. But given your current cupcake non-conference schedule...

    :-)

Take page from LSU and show the world. Then talk.

Seriously, though, I live in New Braunfels and love you guys. Would love to see y'all play some SEC foes!

Its not as though UT schedules all these schools hoping that they are patsies. BYU is regularly a very quality opponent, when this game was scheduled, they were coming off of consecutive 11-2 seasons. Who could have predicted UCLA would get worse instead of remaining relevant in the PAC-12 picture. OOC schedules are made years in advance, difficult, near impossible to predict how good a team will be by the time u get to play them

This, and how many of those bowl wins are bottom feeder SEC teams that get into a bowl at 6-6 or 7-5 and win against some other .500 scrub??? many I would think

You would be correct I am a vol fan. I appreciate your info on my comment, I was not blaming Texas alone for the shake up in the big 12 . Its all about money and Texas gets more than anyone in the big 12, and in the sec the money is split evenly between the 12 schools even though vandy and Kentucky in the past has never done anything they still get the same as Bama, tenn. fla. ect.ect. And that's what schools want ,I'm not saying its right or wrong but that's the way it is,it's all about the money.
+1 to you rantanamo appreciate it.

The conf.splits $ in 12s. When Bama goes to the BCS they get their travel expense (hotel, food, ect.)then they get what ever is owed to them for making it to the big dance, for example if the bowl pays 3mill. Bama would get say 1mill for going and to cover cost of hotel travel food ect.ect. Then the rest is split 12 ways. These #s are just examples and not concrete but you can read about the splits online had to show my father in law last year because he didn't believe it either.

The SEC only splits 1st and 2nd tier TV money, the same way the Big 12 does now. The big 12 also splits the bowl proceeds evenly, and they have since the conference was founded. The third tier rights are kept by member institutions, just like in the Big 12. Florida makes more Tv money than any other SEC school, ahead of most of the SEC schools by a pretty large margin. Texas didn't even make the most in Tv money when you counted in the tier 3 rights. Kansas consistently made more than Texas did until the LHN this year, due to two factors:

    1) they kept a lot of the basketball not taken by the network deals, and Kansas basketball sells, and
    2) they played more crappy OOC teams that none of the networks wanted to show, so Kansas got to keep the PPV money from those games.

I'm pretty sure that Nebraska made more money than Texas on tv some years as well for similar reasons. Now that Texas finally is getting a small fraction of the money they bring into the conference, everybody else is butthurt? Sorry if I'm not feeling sympathetic. They didn't complain when they were making more while Texas only got $100k for their third tier rights, so screw them.

You seem to have a lot of misconceptions about how the Big 12 lost their whiny babies.

Your prob. Right I wasn't saying that's the only reason they left, I mean I read that the state of Missouri cut out of state tuition money to some degree and they found out they could get up to 4-8 million more dollars in the sec. Now aTm I was just saying they left after the LHN was approved not saying that was the only reason but that was one that used, that's all, not argueing with you cause I'm sure you know a lot more about your conference than u do. +1 to ya.

"Anyone who doesn't win their conference, has no business playing in the national championship." - Nick Saban in 2003

There is zero proof Nick Saban said this.

This closest thing you can find to Nick Saban saying it is a quote from defensive back Chad Lavalais that played on his 2003 National Championship team.

"If a team cannot win their conference," argues Chad Lavalais, LSU's senior defensive tackle, "they should not be playing for the national title."

This quote appeared in an article of the USA Today titled 'Co-champs loom after Okla., LSU chosen for Sugar Bowl' dated 12/7/2003. I cited the article below.

I also linked another post from a columnist's blog where research was done to find the exact quote which apparently doesn't exist. I realize its a blog post. However, no one can cite the actual quote which is probably because it doesn't exist. The research was done by a member of the Oklahoma media which would have extensive records of the event considering that it was the team that played LSU that year.

I'll gladly eat my words if you can cite it. More than likely what you'll find out is it's a fabricated quote that came from an OSU fan.

USATODAY.com - Co-champs loom after Okla., LSU chosen for Sugar Bowl

Another year, another BCS controversy. Louisiana State and Oklahoma, the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked teams in both polls will meet Jan. 4 for the national championship in the Sugar Bowl by virtue of finishing in the top two spots in the BCS standings...

Classic $EC homerism. Coming out of the woodwork to mock our OOC schedule and intimate that we're afraid to play $EC teams when their latest MNC team played the lame, halt, and sisters of the poor for their OOC schedule and failed to win their own conference championship, and while showing ignorance of the fact that we have had and $EC team on our own OOC schedule starting next year for some time now.

Dial up is slow, but one would think that the homers might have bothered to check our future schedules before leveling such accusations. Granted, we have no idea how good these teams will be when we play them, but I see Arkansas, BYU, CAL, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and USC on our future schedules along with the usual suspects of Rice, New Mexico, and Wyoming. I wonder how many $EC teams can boast the same.

I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.
