People make way too much of any kid's "dream school" comments.

Imagine you grow up liking a celeb, we'll use Jessica Biel, and she's your "dream girl". You get famous, women celebs are falling at your feet, is it really unreasonable to imagine that Biel might not be your first or even third choice after evaluating all options? Then add that all these other women are giving you loads of attention while Biel drags her feet and then finally throws her hat in the ring.
