Historic night for Josh

  • 5-5, four home runs, 18 total bases and eight RBI's. The 18 total bases is an American league record. The 16th player to ever hit four bombs in one game. Truly the Natural.

  • Rangers should sign him before he hits free agency. He is worth the gamble IMO. I love watching him play.

It's amazing how often the MVP seems to go to guys that are healthy.

It could be, like, a predictor, like.

Those who can, do; those who can't, coach; those who never could, complain about the first two.

  • Dang, I guess I should've watched the game last night. Just read about that in the paper.

Amazing night for Josh. Guy is a freak talent.

    UTK66

  • The other hit was a double. Better offensive game than Dimaggio or Ruth ever had. And good on him.

Id be interested to see the numbers in the last 3 seasons... Its tough to compare Josh to anyone, He is beginning his 6th season of baseball. How did Albert do in years 4,5,6 compared to Josh? That's my only question. Obviously comparing total careers, Pujols is better, but it's crazy to think back and realize that 2007 was Hamilton's first year.

  • Pujols the last three seasons:

2009: .327, .443 on base (led league), .658 slugging (led league), 1.101 OPS (led league), 47 HR (led league), 135 RBI's, 16 SB's, 124 runs scored (led league), 374 total bases (led league) - won the NL MVP

    2010: .312, .414 on base, .596 slugging, 1.011 OPS, 42 HR's (led league), 118 RBI's (led league), 14 SB's, 115 runs scored (led league), 350 total bases - 2nd in NL MVP voting

    2011: .299, .366 on base, .541 slugging, 1.011 OPS, 37 HR, 99 RBI, 9 SB, 105 runs scored, 313 total bases - 5th in NL MVP voting.

Crazy to look back and see those numbers. Pujols has been great.

ONe thing Ill add: Hamilton plays a big time defensive position. AP is a gold glove 1B, but a great defensive OF'er with a cannon is pretty valuable. Josh obviously wasted a ton of ability. I heard a stat not too long ago and forgot exactly what it was, but I was shocked at how many Minor League games he played. barely any.

Years 4,5,6 Pujols still hit more and struck out less. Both will go down as all time greats at their craft.

    Yep

Josh had more total bases last night than Pujols has had in the last 3 weeks

Per Jeff Passans twitter, Hamilton could go 0 for his next 210 and still have a higher slugging percentage than Pujols

    COACH CUTLIP

  • So we measure greatness on a small snapshot of a career now? Then there is that reliability thing due to injuries.

I don't see it with Hamilton as an "all time great" with his craft. He's already 30, and has struggled off the field for much of his career.

I think he's going to fall into that category of "should have been one of the all time greats", or "one of the most talented".

He would essentially have to have 6-7 fully healthy years at 40 and 110 to put up elite numbers for a career. He's only played 150 games once in his career, thus far.

One hell of talent for sure. As good of wrists/hands and hip speed as one will see at 6-4, 230'ish.

I agree with you about the healthy part. Hamilton is always going to miss 10 to 15 games a year. I still think it would be worth the gamble if the Rangers could get him for 5 to 6 years. I am afraid that another team will give him a 9 year Prince Fielder contract and I wouldn't do that.

Definite need for it in 10-15 years. No doubt.
