Good idea to start a new thread on this...

Here are you for sure, likely and possibles...

Auburn Arkansas Kentucky Tennessee South Florida UTEP Boston College (Miami if Al Golden gets/takes BC) Georgia Tech Rice Eastern Michigan Buffalo UNLV Wyoming Colorado FIU New Mexico State Idaho

I can see Bill Snyder retiring at K-State at the end of the season too.

Coaches that I think are there for the taking?

Rhodes - would be a good get for anybody, anywhere.
Solich - Got fired from Nebraska for winning a whole bunch, now he has Ohio winning a bunch. Good coach.
Strong - improving Louisville steadily. Good coach.
Patterson - TCU is a good gig, but they cant throw bigger money at him that some of the other schools.

Cant go wrong with anyone here IMO. What would these guys do with top talent?

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.

  • Caught a little of the WF game last night

    Blow out loss

    1/2 full stadium

    Many off the field issues

Will this job be open at the end of the year?

  • Patterson is underrated and is a better coach than most that are named on this thread. At the right school he would be a big winner. He is detail oriented, is a nuts and bolts coach, a great talent evaluator and works harder than about anyone. I know his peers including Stoops appreciate and fully understand how good he is. In many ways he is the anti Mack Brown. Brown sees himself as a CEO and over the years has contributed even less and less to the actual coaching effort. Skipio may be right that he is actually more of a distraction for his players and assistants than a contributor. Patterson is involved in everything and takes ownership in everything. He is much more like Saban, Muschamp, Stoops and Snyder than he is like Brown.

Unfortunately I can't see him ever coaching here. The Jones's that matter are obsessed with image, and he doesn't present the polish they covet. I fear the Muschamp opportunity was an anomaly and Mack's eventual replacement will be another CEO, another talker and/or pretty boy.

Solich just got a contract renewal this year that will go to 2017 (first attached link). I can't find the buyout numbers, but the last buyout was just $250k (second attached link) so this one is probably south of 7 figures.

The real problem is that he's 67, but I don't see why an ACC team shouldn't jump at the chance to get him.

  • Hot seat check: Paul Pasqualoni

    -----

In one and a half seasons with the Connecticut Huskies, Paul Pasqualoni has gone 8-12, 3-7 in the Big East. They've lost three in a row, most recently a 40-10 rout at the hands of Syracuse, a team that is only 2-4 against FBS opponents. There's a growing desire among UConn fans for Pasqualoni to be fired at the end of the year. ESPN.com Big East blogger Andrea Adelson is not among that group, but she can't deny that things look bad for the Huskies coach:
    - Vince Verhei

    Andrea Adelson
    Things getting worse for Pasqualoni
"I have not and will not advocate for a coach losing his job. I make a note when coaches are on the hot seat, but ultimately the final decision rests in the hands of the school's administration. That being said, Pasqualoni has underperformed. I had UConn as a sleeper team this season, so I thought there would be improvement but this team looks worse now than last year. And last season looked pretty bad."

  • Miami mutiny? The plot thickens

    -----

Yesterday we told you about the departures of two players (juniors Jermaine Johnson and Kelvin Cain) from the Miami Hurricanes football team, and how it was a sign that players may be turning their backs on coach Al Golden. There's another twist in the story now, as Cain's mother, Ursula Dean, tells Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald that her son didn't leave voluntarily, he was forced out.

"He's heartbroken,'' said Dean, who lives in Clovis, Calif. "He said he did not quit the team.

"Coach Golden told me he left the team but that's not what my son is telling me. He said, 'Mom, when I showed up, nothing was in my locker.'"

Dean said that Cain was left off the list of Miami players who were to stay overnight at their usual Friday night hotel before home games. She said she got a call from defensive line coach Jethro Franklin on Friday afternoon saying coaches didn't know where Kelvin was.

"Kelvin told me he wasn't supposed to show up,'' Dean said. "But I don't know the rules and if that's true or not."

  • Can Cardinals keep Strong?

    -----

The good news for the Louisville Cardinals is that they are 7-0 and 16th in the BCS standings. The bad news for the Louisville Cardinals is that they are 7-0 and 16th in the BCS standings. The more this team wins, the more attention teams are going to pay to coach Charlie Strong, and that increases the odds of a bigger program coming in to poach Strong after the season.

"With each win, Strong's name keeps moving up the list of potential candidates to fill impending SEC coaching vacancies," writes ESPN.com national writer Ryan McGee.

Worse, if rumors start to spread that Strong could skip town, that could cost the Cardinals wins this season. "I don't care who you are," one SEC coach tells McGee. "That's a huge distraction. And the history of Big East guys jumping ship is pretty well-written."

The answer no, not if Auburn or Arkansas throw the $$$ at him.

    Good stuff. Keep it coming.

  • BTW, South Carolina/Spurrier can put the final nail in another Tennessee head coach today IMO.

Texas A&M will beat up Auburn and speed up the process IMO.

How is Reuben Foster still committed to Auburn? I think I saw that he visited LSU for the South Carolina game. LSU bound?

    WildBill71

  • I think it helps that Trooper Taylor's son is on the same team.

He's calling around for sure. Will all depend on the new coach IMO.
