That's a different one. I got a screen shot of what I typed from a friend.

No problem. I think you're a great poster on this site but I had to look it up on OB because it sounded so stupid. The full quote is a little more reasonable.

Truthfully, I don't remember the young Vince having a great touch with short passes. I don't remember Gilbert doing much better with the short passes. They both liked to air it out.

If Swoopes has a short game that even comes close to what Colt had with the wheels he's been blessed with, we might have us a QB.

  • Hey just goes to show you two people can watch something and can come to comPletely different conclusions.

I disagree with with him and others have said everything I would have said in more appropriate language for a message board.

Ketch was saying in other posts that Swoopes essentially had a horrid first day in camp

The 2nd day was much better. Swoopes was checking down and had a much better day showing a lot of touch on the short passes.

He also said that Swoopes threw 3 long TDs to RSJ. On one RSJ was open. On the other 2, Swoopes threw him open.

I'm gonna reserve judgement for when I see him. I'm very encouraged by about 1/2 the reports I read about him.

That's just a REALLY poor decision IMO.

Personal/private QB coaches/camps cost thousands of bucks.

Not every HS kid has that kind of money to throw around.

They should if their Aunt wishes to help them succeed. Lol

It's just odd that it was nearly a done deal and then he decided not to train with anyone. I hope it was a monetary decision and not just a choice..

Funny comparison IMO. VY in high school was an outstanding passer. His senior year was tremendous. He may have struggled on campus his first year or two but against high school competition he was always excellent. That is all.

Although I don't agree with the take on the OP Vince had 1300 yards passing his junior in the only stats I could find.
Were those stats wrong? If they are correct doesn't seem he was that great as a junior.

Agree he was a great as a senior.

No version of Vince has great touch with short passes. He grew to have a little touch years later, but he would always rather throw a fastball than a lob.

  • Talked to a cousin of mine who saw Vince a lot. He said his Jr and Sr year were like night and day. He was always known to be a great athlete, but his senior year Vince was really throwing the ball. He said its not out of the question to compare some1 to Vince his Jr year, but the Sr year better be amazing if u want to keep comparing.

I only saw him against North Shore and you can't compare anyone to that..

  • I don't ever overhype our QBs. I thought VY was a stud from jump because he opened up our run game (designed by Greg Davis which is a hell of a feat -- see Benson's YPC pre and post VY) and because VY put up an average 130 pass rating as a RS freshman.

But I watched some Brewer highlights and his spring game performance, and in my opinion he has a lot of game. Of course it will take another year for him to be ready.

My gut tells me Ash is a Nate Hybl type. Great tools. Poor vision. Hope I'm wrong.

Actually, outside of the other mouthbreathing apologists from Lake Travis, no one preached more about Garrett Gilbert than Geoff Ketchum. Other folks liked him, Ketchum praised the guy as the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ in shoulder pads. He went so far as to claim that he'd be the best QB Texas had ever had on campus. So, no, he wasn't far from alone.

That said, there were indeed plenty of folks who touted Gilbert. At the same time, no one predicts a freaking 5 star flameout of epic proportions ahead of time. Much like no one predicted 5-7, no one predicted a Gilbert collapse of Bomar-ian proportions.

Regarding Ketchum's take on Vince Young versus Swoopes, at this time in VY's career, he was a JR in HS about to head to the Elite 11 camp, where he claims to have learned more in that session than in everything else combined leading up to it. VY was 10x the passer during his SR year versus his prior two seasons and it was a shocker to everyone who watched him. Ketchum wouldn't know, because all his fatass did was catch some film and read first hand reports like any other fan.

As to Swoopes being better now than VY as a 20 year old, not unless someone was out there wearing a Tyrone Swoopes costume. Ketchum is an imbecile for pushing the comparison in the first place. Of course, he's an imbecile and always has been irrespective of this, so I guess it goes without saying but I am saying it nonetheless.

    Awesome. lol

He's gonna play another year of 2A and never throw the ball in a game. Why he wouldn't transfer, if possible, to a larger school like Desoto is puzzling to me.

  • I don't think Ash's vision is that bad. Remember how many TDs he missed with bad throws.. I just think the game never slowed for him last year. I expect 1800-2400 yds this year.. Depends on how we run it..

I got a screen shot (a picture if you're not familiar with how technology works) of the quote from a friend. I typed it verbatim on here.

What about that is so hard to understand?

The only thing holding Ash back is experience. Once he learns where everyone needs to be lined up and how to get Texas out of a bad play, he'll be terrific IMO.
