I paid to read what that man had to write about Garrett Gilbert. That is all.

Actually, outside of the other mouthbreathing apologists from Lake Travis, no one preached more about Garrett Gilbert than Geoff Ketchum. Other folks liked him, Ketchum praised the guy as the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ in shoulder pads. He went so far as to claim that he'd be the best QB Texas had ever had on campus. So, no, he wasn't far from alone.

That said, there were indeed plenty of folks who touted Gilbert. At the same time, no one predicts a freaking 5 star flameout of epic proportions ahead of time. Much like no one predicted 5-7, no one predicted a Gilbert collapse of Bomar-ian proportions.

Regarding Ketchum's take on Vince Young versus Swoopes, at this time in VY's career, he was a JR in HS about to head to the Elite 11 camp, where he claims to have learned more in that session than in everything else combined leading up to it. VY was 10x the passer during his SR year versus his prior two seasons and it was a shocker to everyone who watched him. Ketchum wouldn't know, because all his fatass did was catch some film and read first hand reports like any other fan.

As to Swoopes being better now than VY as a 20 year old, not unless someone was out there wearing a Tyrone Swoopes costume. Ketchum is an imbecile for pushing the comparison in the first place. Of course, he's an imbecile and always has been irrespective of this, so I guess it goes without saying but I am saying it nonetheless.

He should stick to ruining my drive home with obsolete 80s movie references, telling us stories about the time he had a girlfriend in high school and laughing at his own jokes.

Garrett Gilbert is ahead of Troy Aikman and John Elway combined at this stage.

This is the guy that said Gilbert was the best QB in the Big 12 the summer before his sophomore year. The year we went 5-7 and Gilbert threw around twice as many INT's as TD's.

To say he throws as well as VY did as a 19-year old is beyond crazy given I watched VY dismantle team after team in high school with his arm as much or more than his legs. And VY rarely pushed short throws in 7-on-7s and games (although he short-armed a few, it was relatively rare). Additionally, while VY has/had an awkward delivery, it was a consistent delivery.

Can Tyrone Swoopes be a very effective college quarterback? Yes.

Do I think he's the next VY? No, I think that's an unfair comparison.

Do I think other QBs in the state of Texas in this high school class are clearly better passers? Yes. But that's not Swoopes ultimate strength as a player IMO.

He's better RIGHT now in the passing game than VY was at the same stage. Period. It's not even debatable. I saw VY throw in settings like this as a sophomore, junior and senior. I watched him in games. I saw every single practice he had early in his career. I watched him a dozen times in summer seven-on-sevens. VY just did not throw the short or intermediate passes with the amount of skill that Swoopes did this weekend until he was no longer a teenager. That doesn't mean he's a better player than VY, it just means in this specific area, he's more advanced at the same stage in their careers side-by-side.

That's a different one. I got a screen shot of what I typed from a friend.

I was told around Elite 11 time (back in March) that doing just that was in the works, but Swoopes told me in May he's not planning on working with Murray or any QB coach.
