Harsin's idiotic decisions

  • Monroe no offensive touches.
    Daje 2 offensive touches.
Gray only a few 2nd half touches.
    No wildcat in the RZ.
    Goodwin 2 targets.

TCU played a 2 deep zone for the majority of the game, watching all the window dressing motion thinking this funny to watch.

There are 2-3 coaches i would keep right now.

    NLeininger

  • we mostly stopped ourselves in the first half. why we got away from that in the second half is beyond me.

    churchill

  • He definitely gets an f this game!

Jet sweep was effective the 1 time we ran it in the 4th.

Made the offense play inside the tackles all game. Beyond tired of his play calling when the offense stalls. Needs to use his weapon.

  • Harsin didn't have the best game today but the story of the game was turnovers and shitty tackling.

That's been all of 2012. No improvement what so ever.

  • I need more cowbell and slow developing run plays on first down .
and a hole in my head !

  • Yeah. And why did Harsin call those two redzone interceptions and multiple fumbles? And especially why did he call that final drive interception? I liked the headless chicken window dressing before the interception, but why didn't he call that Case scramble for 35 yards to save the game play?

I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.

  • Play calling was only so so, but at some point the players need to execute. There was a lot open in the passing game but Ash regressed tonight. Late, inaccurate and poor decisions.

  • i can't even formulate a post to describe mccoy's hail mary with 1:30 in the game. just...fu**ing, WOW.

    kid has some serious issues.

  • What is frustrating to me is that we had a bye week to prepare for this game and to come out the way we did on offense tonight was pathetic. Give TCU some credit up front on the line, but make no mistake, David Ash was somewhere else tonight on that field. Three huge turnovers; two inside the red zone and another deep in our own territory that resulted in an easy TD for TCU was the big difference. Yes, McCoy throwing that brutal "please catch it" pass up to Shipley sealed it, but that certainly wasn't the reason we lost. We shouldn't have been in that situation to begin with. Our inability to run the ball once again killed us. This game in some ways (not as bad of course) reminded me of the OU game to the extent that TCU limited our run game and forced us to be more one dimensional. I still question Harsin on playcalling. I thought not having Gray in more in the second half was crazy (only carrying it three times)? I thought once the coaches made a decision to take Ash out, McCoy should have remained in. It was clear to me that Ash was having another "Kansas" type of game in terms of his play and mindset, so I still don't understand how you make that decision (to put Ash back in) after halftime. Bottom line..another embarrassing loss for this Texas team under Mack Brown and we could be in line for another next weekend I'm afraid after this one.

That was quite possibly the WORST single throw I have ever seen in my life. This is not X-box fucking football, man.

It was incomprehensible. Reckless. Irresponsible. Idiotic. Doomed.

And the scary thing is, he's capable of making that kind of decision at any moment. I honestly believe that he would make between 2 to 5 throws like that per game if he were a full time starter.

    RichUT

  • Our quarterbacks really sucked tonight. Harsin wasn't making the throws.

i just want to reiterate - he made that throw with over a minute left in the game.

  • He made that throw with the other options being 1) throw the ball away or 2) scramble for 5 before going out of bounds. Just a horrid decision there.

That's Case. His greatest asset is his willingness to take chances. His greatest weakness is his willingness to take chances.

  • That was a horrible throw by McCoy and he is a junior, when ash wasn't throwing it to TCU he aimed at the dirt. Thankfully we have a pathetic OOC schedule and enough weak teams in this meh conference to make unknowledgeble people think we're halfway decent. I can't wait to not order my season tickets next year.

Great post. You live and die with the ball in his hands no question. He threw what should have been a game ending interception in the Kansas game before leading the offense on the same possession to the game winning TD and more than likely saving Mack Browns job. He certainly had some good throws tonight and gave the team a chance to tie it, only to have one of those "moments" again that this time ended in disaster. Bottom line, were just too inconsistent at the QB position right now for a program like Texas and to see Ash come out the way he did tonight so late in the season and just flat out hand the ball over to TCU on three diffferent occassions is alarming and certainly doesn't give me a whole lot of hope for next season.

  • Harsin and the offense had a bad game (again), but it was brilliant compared to the defensive calls that allowed their first 14 points. When is Diaz going to learn not to run his LBs up to the line against a zone read? If you keep doing the same thing expecting a different result you qualify as a moron. During the periods the LBs played normally, TCU did nothing. Dumb.

    rozell99

  • I'm convinced that Mack decides the framework of the offense for each opponent, and Harsin is in charge of painting the picture.

I've watched a few Boise St. games, and never saw Harsin call bad games like he does at Texas. The compassion is night and day.

    Mars512

  • TCU basically got all their points off turnovers.. Ash turns it over 2 times inside the 30. That took points off for us and gave points to them. Then we fumbled and gave them the ball like at the 20.

IMO, the offensive game plan is a collaborative effort. Once they decide on an approach, my guess is that Harsin is responsible for putting the meat on the bones (i.e., play calls, personnel packages, etc.) and is given the freedom to make in-game decisions as he sees fit. Given Mack's CEO style, he delegates authority to his coordinators and chimes in during the game at the critical junctures (i.e., whether to go for it on 4th down, onside kicks, etc.).

I did not watch most of the game due to family/holiday obligations and travel but, after looking at the box score and seeing the LHN guys re-hash the game, it seemed to me that the offense was moving the ball well the first few series, but QB errors cost them points, put them in a hole, and they never recovered. What puzzles me the most is that Harsin cannot seem to figure out a way to use all of the weapons that he has at his disposal. Harsin didn't have as many weapons at Boise so his choices were easier to make. He has a luxury at Texas that he didn't have in Idaho. I'm beginning to think he hasn't figured out how to handle it even though he's had two years to do it. That's a problem.

    Danno2

  • Something to remember also. Patterson has defensed this offense 2 times previous in bowl games.

Still doesn't excuse Harsin's lack of brilliance last night.

    NLeininger

  • Really? No, really? People actually think Harsin had less tools to work with at Boise? Put down the Texas coolaid for a minute. He could do a bette job of distributing touches, but pretending like he showed up on the 40 acres and found an embarrassmen of riches is a bit much.

I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.

  • I just don't see any improvement on either side of the ball from the beginning of the season until now. That is poor player development, poor execution, poor game management.

after a bye week to boot, which makes it even harder to accept this outcome. At most places, that would make a HC scream, but at Texas, it's "I thought the kids played hard" or my favorite "I thought we were trying too hard"

    +1

I'm waiting for confirmation that had directions from Mack to stay within a particular framework last night.
