Give me reasons why Mack won't retire?

  • Denial?
    Pride?
    Money?
Some help me with the real reason please!

  • Ego.

Hell, that's probably at the heart of the issue that impacts the entire athletics department. Everyone up there has been spouting off "We're Texas" for the last 10-15 years and now they actually believe that shit. Just because we have every advantage in the world doesn't mean that we don't have to work hard to be the best.

Yeah, we ARE Texas. When the hell are we going to start playing like it?

  • Dodds...he'll probably give him another raise to stay. I think ego has a lot to do with it. Mack doesn't want to go out a loser, otherwise 2010 would have been the perfect moment for him to step down. He plans on being back folks unless powers or the BOR's steps in.I've said this on numerous occassions on this board, the problem at Texas is not that we don't have athletes or that we don't have the resources, the problem has always been that we don't have a coach that preaches accountability across the board. His post game interview was just another example, saying the "kids played hard". No they didn't. Your offensive line was beaten down most of the night, your QB play sucked, your defense missed tackles as usual and took themselves out of making plays most of the first half and your DC went back to his "old ways" of guessing and hoping on the sideline. Your OC once again forgot who he had on the sidelines in terms of player personnel to work with (where the hell was DJ or MB or JG in the second half) and never countered with what TCU was doing on defense. What's wrong with being honest? We don't have a coach that's engaged on the sidelines. Somebody asked Mack after the game, "what do you think Ash was going through out there tonight, was it TCU's defense or do you think it was something else"? Mack's response, "I don't know, I haven't talked to him until before the game". If my QB had had three turnovers in the first half, I sure as hell would have went over as a HC and asked him some questions before deciding to put him back in the second half after yanking him at the end of the first half? A reporter asked Mack "what was the decision to put Ash back in after putting Case in prior to halftime" Mack started out with his classic line, "the coaches thought", before hesitantly saying and "I agreed" that David could run the one minute offense a little better and so we went with him" A weak response to say the least, considering Case did it quite well against Kansas. So as the HC, you went along with that and never spoke to your QB even after it was clear your offense was going no where with him under center in the first half? The bottom line is as long as Mack reamins the coach, you can expect the same outcome next year. This team had no sense of urgency. It was almost as if the roles were reversed (TCU playing for more than Texas). I would argue of course to some extent that as a player in that type of situation (with so much on the line to play for) it shouldn't take a whole lot of "coaching up" to get ready for this kind of game, but again this is Texas and when things don't go to script, we fold like a cheap tent and that is on coaching. That seems to be the trend these days and it's just another reason of many that Mack needs to step down. I won't hold my breath on that one though.

It would leave him with an uncertain future and that scares him.

I think that is something to be worried about.

    This would be my guess.

  • Maybe, after the season, we'll be watching a tearful press conference where he retires.

I'll also be crying - Tears of Joy.
