  • I wonder how many games we would have won last season had GG not been benched, six? His play in the BYU game was some of the worst QBing I have ever seen. He was a one-read spread robot in HS and somehow no one seemed to notice until he came here and imploded.

Take how butthurt some of you are getting about comments about a team that you probably have no connection to other than you went to that school. So it's not difficult to imagine Gilbert's dad being a little defensive when criticism is directed towards his actual flesh and blood, right?

Now let's add in the fact that though perhaps impolitic and hyperbolic (the Elway mention), Gilbert was basically right on the money in that every position group on that 2010 offense was either average (maybe the WRs) or below average (every other position).

It all adds up to not something worth getting upset over.

There's this thing called the 'High Road'. That road is apparently not on Gale's map.

No self-control, won't take 'No' for an answer, yada yada.....

“It was a bad team anyway. You could have put John Elway in at quarterback and it wasn’t going to be pretty.” ~ Gale Gilbert

with any qb beyond horrible in 2010 we beat iowa st., baylor, ou, and a&m. that's at minimum 9-3.

    john elway doesn't throw 5 int.s @k.state.

  • If he watched the film of his son play,he would realize that he didnt make good decisions with the football, the team doesnt throw 17 interception only the quarterback does. Also if he thought we were bad wait until SMU plays an actual team. They will be crushed

I don't know what the answer is for Gale Gilbert, but calling out your son's former team and teammates isn't part of any solution. If your son wants to say those things, then that's different. Let him say them for himself.

In his defense, Gale was just following Brad McCoy's lead.

  • I gotta admit I was really looking forward to pulling for Garrett at SMU and especially against BU and the Ags. I'll continue to try and pull for him, but his dad's comments are making it much harder to do so.

Are you a father. If you are, somehow you missed the boat. That's what parents do. They try to take a little heat off their kids. He supported his kid going to Texas and didn't say a word while he was on campus at Texas. Now his son is starting again at SMU. He's trying to deflect a little of the baggage that followed Gilbert II to SMU. The reality is that Texas was a f....ing mess offensively in 2010 and 2011. Lousy offensive line. No running game. Lousy receivers. He's simply telling the truth. When he failed with no team around him; the Texas internet recruiting guru's went into over-drive tearing the kid down. Why have the kid have to say it. This way; the son stays above the mess and has an honest chance to start over again.

Get over yourself. I don't blame Gilbert senior for saying anything he's said. If I was the kid's dad, I would have basically said the same thing. He isn't playing to the U.T. audience at this point. You as much as anyone has crapped on his son for the past year. Its not really that hard to understand.

Why was there a need to make the comment? Things didn't work out for Garrett at Texas. We all know it was not all his fault, but Mack and company did everything possible to accommodate the transfer. The kid has a second chance and most of us here hope that he makes the most of it. As a parent, I would be appreciative of the actions Mack and The University of Texas took on my son's behalf.

What a load of sobbing bullshit. The guy's son is 21 years old. He should say nothing and stay out of speaking for him publicly if he's going to run anyone else down. Plenty of us have kids and wouldn't do that unless the kid got some sort of raw deal. Garrett Gilbert got the furthest thing from a raw deal. He received every possible break from Brown and the program. They rolled out the red carpet in his recruitment. They gave him a clear shot at starting QB to the point of serving to other players' detriment from McCoy to Wood to Ash and countless guys unrecruited. They recruited his teammates to make him feel at home. They went so far as to help him find a soft place to land once it was clear he was not going to be a player at Texas. Boo freaking hoo for Mr. Good Guy Gale Gilbert.

Yep, I'm a dad. Proud father of two.

Here's what he did that I disagree with.

I'm sure Garrett still has friends on the Texas team. Gale basically threw his son's former teammates under the bus to some degree. How do you think that makes Garrett feel? Probably pretty crappy.

His father's hard feelings are understandable. It doesn't give him a license to make himself feel better by putting his kid in a difficult situation.

  • Bobby makes a good point. It puts Garrett in an awkward position with his former teammates. I doubt he was totally okay with his Dad saying that.

This topic always brings strong opinions, especially a player from Lake Travis.
