Georgia Tech to B1G

Yes, I agree. Darren Rovell reported the following this morning.

"With a BCS bid on the line, only 2.6% of New York City was watching the Rutgers game on ESPN last night."

Rutgers is an afterthought in NYC.

Is he saying it pulled a 2.6 in NYC?

Um, that's not a horrible number the nations biggest market. Without looking, same number of people as a 6 or so in DFW or Houston.

That is not a bad number in NYC for college football. I will look it up later, but I think Texas-TCU pulled less than a 3 in Houston.

  • Here you go. According to David Barron at the Houston Chronicle: Texas-TCU garnered 1.1 nationally and 2.2 in Houston.

    Yeah, a 2.6 in the nyc/suburb area is a cool 500k.

I suspect the B1G also has a belief that its presence as a conference in the vicinity will increase viewership of all conference games as well as the fanbase for the new invitees in the area. Of course, I don't necessarily see the logic behind expecting a team to be more popular in its own neighborhood upon becoming a doormat.

DC is full of people from other places, but not enough from any one place to make a difference. ACC is what i would call the home conference for DC, B1G is next, so we get those games in most cases already. It'll matter to some B1G alums who can go to College Park to see their team and that's about it . You're absolutely right, it's not going to elevate MD in the area, they're going to have to win in a huge way to make any sort of move.

Don't drag my Cardinals into this debate. We were undefeated in football for many years you know.
