Gene Stallings on Texas

  • Gene Stallings: Longhorn Network was final straw for Texas A&M in Big 12

Former Alabama coach says he wanted Big 12 to stay intact, but said if Aggies were going to move it should be to SEC.

  • An aggy crying about Texas? That almost never happens.

    Rivver

  • He was friends with my late grandfather and used to hunt at our ranch every year. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

  • Always thought Gene was a pretty good coach. Hate to see him whining like every other aggie b-tch.

    He's pretty much a dumbass

  • The LHN is still here, going to the SEC doesn't change that.

  • Stallings is also a liar. Stallings and McKinney were the two primary drivers in making sure that the Pac-16 never happened in 2010. These two guys were the ones who reached out to Slive / SEC to ensure that the Pac-16 couldn't happen (note: I'm not saying that it would've happened, but Stallings & McKinney sabotaged it).

Further, Stallings and McKinney were part of the group that forced A&M to get a larger cut of Nebraska and Colorado's exit fees so that A&M got at least $20MM to stay in the Big XII. In other words, when Stallings says "we wanted to stay in the Big XII" what he really means is "as long as we get as much money as Texas and OU, we'll stay in the Big XII". Less than a year later, Texas gets a $300MM deal from ESPN, and A&M flees to the SEC crying "we can't compete with Texas' resources".

Stallings is one of the 4 human beings most responsible for the severing of the Texas - A&M rivalry (along with McKinney, Adams, and Perry). A true hypocrite.

And I hope that this is his lasting legacy. One that every aggy for generations going forward will look upon with great disfavor.

I never have seen an Aggie coach that was decent. Bear Bryant was before my time.

  • I find it hilarious how aggy keeps changing its story like a jealous ex.

u can has LHN? No fair, it's all your fault!

It has nothing to do with LHN, it's just a business decision in our own interests, we have to do what's best, but we hate you, PLEASE PLAY US!!!11!1!

u can has unequal revenue sharing? No fair, it's all your fault!

OK, we want unequal revenue sharing, as long as we get as much as t.u.

SEC luv aggy! We get equal share. We hate you, PLEASE PLAY US!!!11!1!!!11!!!!1!!!11!1!1!!!

THANK YOU, SEC, for taking these retards off our hands.

11/24/11: 27-25, 76-37-5, a winning record at Kyle Field, and bragging rights 'til Gabriel blows his horn. Well...bye.

A very nice rendition of the aggie thought process. Funny and accurate imo.

Stallings acknowledged in an interview today that A&M pursued the SEC, and not the other way around. So, all of that talk in 2010 about A&M having an invitation from the SEC was pure bluff.

  • Why were Texas leaders talking to the PAC 10 and Big 10 about jumping conferences as early as 2009 in the first place?

Our friends sarcasm Richard Box and John Sharp make it a gang of six. Stallings certainly was the voice behind it. The sad thing is even the more "rational Aggies" that I know have bought into the party line.

When Missouri began its open flirtation with the Big 10 and the Big 12's future came into question, UT began exploring options as any prudent business would. In the end, UT's still in the Big 12 and made concessions to secure the conference's future while living up to every contract it signed with the conference.

RC was pretty good. And what's happened to aggy since then is proof that Kharma has a sense of humor.

There have been a number of coaches at A&M that were at least decent. Bryant was obviously a great coach and had A&M close to a national championship in the 1950s, albeit while they were on probation. Slocum, Bellard, and Sherrill were all at least pretty good coaches. All of them had at least one A&M team that finished the season ranked in the top 10.

Didn't Dodds originally offer you mullet aggys the opportunity to join us in a Texas/TexasAM network.

I believe that was the initial plan and you idiots passed on it.

Why were Texas leaders talking to the PAC 10 and Big 10 about jumping conferences as early as 2009 in the first place?

It wasn't without taking care of our little brothers too. Believe me, any Texas discussions with the Big Ten and Pac Ten were with A&M's knowledge and approval, and knowing that Texas would represent A&M's best interests as well. Byrne knew and approved. Remember, when it cames to the Big Ten, we had a "Tech problem", not an A&M problem.

Regarding the Pac-16, Texas set that deal up on a tee for the remaining six schools of the Big XII (AFTER Nebraska left and Mizzou was beggin for an offer) - Texas, A&M, OU, OSU, Tech, and CU. It was there to be done if Stallings, Adams, McKinney, (and eventually, Perry) hadn't started talking to Mike Slive. Slive HAD TO stop the Pac-16 from happening or he would never have a shot at growing the SEC westward into the fertile grounds of Texas. Ever. So, Stallings and Sherrill were employed to talk to Adams, Loftin, et al and try to work a deal with the SEC that prevented the formation of the Pac-16. So, we (Texas) had to back off and re-establish the Big XII with a guarantee that A&M gets $20MM per year, just like big brother does. Once Texas got the $300MM from ESPN just a year later, A&M ran off to another conference crying...taking their ball and running away rather than competing with Texas' resources.

A&M was Slive's pawn for the fly in the ointment preventing the formation of the Pac-16.

    Racer X

  • So a proven cheater and former Aggie coach thinks A&M should be in the SEC. Sounds about right.

I prefer to think of it as "The Longhorn Network, finally we have a way to get rid of Aggie"
