Ash punted 3 yrs in HS with an avg distance of between 41-43 yds per punt. He was 2nd team all state as a Sr. for both QB and punter in his classification, 5A...

It adds pressure all over the field on both sides of the ball. And it's a known pressure so it really can affect how the team plays.

Last year, I posted Texas should take any & all FG attempts up to 55 yards because they needed every point they could find...this year, I'm not sure Texas should attempt a FG outside of 35 yards because of the poor performances to this point & the likelyhood it'll give Texas opp strong field positions when they miss

I'm also thinking that if we have to rely on that to win a few games then some other factors of our game just aren't working too well. We should *never* have to rely on a last second field goal, to squeak by with a point or two.

It simply amazes me that no one can punt the ball out of bounds anymore.
A punter that works at punting for the sideline/corner can get pretty good at it ... with distance. I've seen them do it, however, not lately.
I've seen punters at the 2A level get accurate enough to put a freaking football pretty damn close to a wash tub at 35 yards.

It's been so long since we have had a good punter. Way too long. Hopefully our kicking problems get solved with the new influx of kids in the fall added to the current guys. But punts and kickoffs have got to improve.
