Report: South Carolina asks to speak with K-State’s Frank Martin - KansasCity.com

Frank Martin says he has not spoken to South Carolina about its basketball coaching vacancy, but a report Friday evening said the Gamecocks had asked Kansas State to speak with Martin.

Never been to South Carolina's campus but wouldn't it be considered an upgrade over manhattan?

I think so. Closer to Martin's recruiting base (he's a South Florida guy - and recruits East coast up and down).
I think South Carolina will hire 1 of Buzz Williams, Frank Martin or Seth Greenberg
Also, SMU is going to attempt to roll out 2+ million for Buzz Williams, and I think he'll very much listen.

Can Bill Snyder coach basketball as well?
I can see them hiring someone like Delonte Hill.
They really need to hire someone who can "recruit" more than he can coach.
That place is a tough tough sell.

i thought the guy would be a huge failure when huggybear left, but he's a pretty damn good coach. i do hope i'm watching when he has that aneurysm though.

I thought Martin was a joke and got the job just to get Beasley to Kstate, but he's done a great job.
Sucks for Big XII basketball, but can't say I'm sorry to see him go...

Yeah, he won me over, too.
Whole thing appears to be a result of a rift between Martin and the AD. I think he's picking the wrong place, but if you gotta get out, I guess you take what you can get.

I liked that guy. I wonder if either 7 footer coming in will seek to go elsewhere now. I'm assuming Henriquez is staying, and if Diaz stays, that would give them 28 feet of centers.

Edit: Just checked SoCar's roster--11 on scholarship, 1 senior, and they have only one recruit signed at this point. They also are without much in the way of dominating size in the middle. Geathers is a project and their recruit, Haughton, is probably a year or two from contributing much, and Haughton doesn't have near the size of Upshaw. I'm sure Martin is trying to get Upshaw to go with him, but I have no idea if the kid will follow Martin. Upshaw was looking primarily at West Coast schools, but had some really good offers from schools farther east--Georgetown and Louisville, for example.
