Thomas' bad choice to leave school ended up with nobody drafting him or signing him to a UFA deal. Yet.
"He wasn’t drafted, and then no team offered him a free-agent deal. And while he’s got a tryout this weekend with Pittsburgh, another next weekend with Cleveland, there’s no guarantee he’ll even get invited to a training camp. Making a roster is a very long shot.
It’s easy to see Thomas would have been much better off in school. And also, that Oregon would be better off, too."

Thomas declaring early is one of the biggest draft head scratchers I can recall. He was an average at best college QB.

There is a reason why he 'left' the program. I am sure it will come out sooner than later, but there are reasons as to why there is little interest.

If you read the article, he received advice from his high school coach and Chip Kelly TO STAY IN SCHOOL.

That's easy to assume, but Kelly wanted him back so I can't believe it'd have been impossible to stay in school.

Understood, I recall there were some issues of the dope and other tickets. Seems like a lack of institutional control up there.
What else would you expect Kelly to say though? He knew his team would be better off with him, plus, you rarely see coaches give advice to leave school....

Actually, many coaches tell the kids to go. What the coaches really do is collect the data and present it to the kid. If a kid has a 1st round grade, Saban, Miles, Carroll, etc. tell them to go.

Most coaches are going to recommend a kid stay in school because it benefits them so I take that with a grain of salt.
Someone had to be in his ear telling him to make the jump though. I can't imagine he got his draft grade back with anything higher than MAYBE 4th or 5th round. So there had to be some catalyst that prompted such a stupid decision.
