  • 3 yr records and how much money he makes are ridiculously stupid points. It isn't his fault they paid him a stupid amount of money and why mention the three year run without mentioning the previous years of the coaching stints as well? He either is or isn't good enough to coach here.

Personally, his time has come although I'm fine with one more year. The last two OU blowouts were more than I can stand. And for the first time, he's lost his touch on the recruiting trail.

I downvoted you for obvious reasons. There's nothing to explain. It's a retreaded topic with nothing but hope as a strategy. The upvote/downvote stuff is bizarre to me, but it seems like it was designed for threads like this, so thanks for giving me a chance to use it.

I upvoted you for obvious reasons. I did not downvote the OP mostly out of apathy.

I know there are a lot of people who want to axe Mack and I understand how people can be frustrated, but I really do think that would be a huge mistake unless we really do tank it the next season or two, Far better it would be for Mack to be coach for the next few years and then take an administrative position to help the next coach in the ways he knows best. To fire him would alienate him without a doubt and just as Darrell was around for Mack it would only make sense for Mack to still be a part of the family when the next coach takes the reigns. He has had a huge impact on Longhorn Football and he should have the opportunity to go out with a bang, not a whimper, I know he has let some conference championships get away. I know he's been stomped by OU a few too many times. But he has also taken us on a run not experienced since the late sixties and early seventies. Mack does leave a legacy and I think it far better for our Longhorn family for him to leave on his own terms and maintain continuity rather than cast him off. He has also made a boatload of money for Longhorn Athletics as well. Downvote away.

I agree that Mack should not be fired until a significantly better option is available, and willing to come, but I would not like for Mack to be a part of that process when the time comes. Dodd's needs be left out of it too imo.

When we change, I want new blood, all over, hired by a guy/gal that is hungry and hell-bent on forging their reputation as a big winner.

Completely disagree. The man is an employee. When an employee stops doing his job its time to find a new one. Any new coach that comes after Mack is not going to want Mack around.

Because it's called a trend and is most indicative of the direction of the program. Who cares about 2009 now? 75% of that staff isn't even here anymore and almost every player is also gone from that team. Hey, let's go back to 2006. Problem is all those players are gone and 95% of the staff as well. You say it's stupid to reference the last 3 yrs, yet you reference the last 2 OU games? Really? We lost the OU game in 2010 as well.....during 5-7......which occurred in the last 3 yrs and is apparently stupid to point out.

I'll concede the salary point. If Mack can convince DeLoss and Texas to pay him $5.3M/yr then go for it and who can blame him. At some point someone around here well above my pay grade has to ask DeLoss what are we getting for $5.3M annually? 22-16? 0-3 vs OU with the last 2 games setting records for point differential? The worst statistical defensive season in the history of Texas football? More decommits and an apparent slip in recruiting(Mack's wheelhouse mind you), but yeah, looking at the last 3 yrs is really stupid. Funny.

2 conference championships in 15 years, while main rival has 8 in 14 years

This, with more advantages then any other college football program, Mack Brown has underperformed

How many of you would still be employed if you failed to meet your yearly goal 85% of the time

    smaxx

  • Not much new I can add at this point. The 2 CONFERENCE championships (1 came with arguably the best player in CFB history and the other by the winningest QB in CFB history) say it all to me. Even if Coach Brown does win big in 2013 it still needs to be his last year. He lost me forever with 9:20 to go in the 2nd Qtr in the Cotton Bowl on Oct 13th. Also, another reason is I have NEVER wanted Texas to duck anyone, least of all A&M. If I'm being honest, I was glad we lost to TCU and KSU because the ass raping A&M would have given us would have been disastrous on so many levels. Could you imagine having lost scoreboard over them thier first year in the SEC and having to listen (even more than we are already having to) to their SEC SEC drivel?? I appreciate all Coach Brown has done for Texas. I remember 85-97 well and he was the right man for the job in 1998. That is no longer the case in 2013. The program needs a complete culture change and it needs to start at the top.

That has put me in the question Mack staying on as head coach camp. That being said my upvote gave you a plus 8 out of 60. You expressed a reasonable opinion and that is what this board should be about.

  • Let's just do it. After all, we're TEXAS. We're ENTITLED to win. We've PAID for it. Nine or ten wins doesn't matter. I want 'em all. Every top recruit should come here, period. Hello . . . we're TEXAS. We DESERVE to win because it's our tradition.
I want to pick up my championship at the drive thru window, with extra mustard. Please don't make me get out of the car.

The OP said, "he should have the opportunity to go out with a bang, not a whimper."

And you want to complain about a sense of entitlement in those wanting Mack gone?

    bierce

  • Time to chime in again. I'm not complaining about people wanting Mack to be gone. I honestly hope he steps down in the next year or two. Unlike most of my brothers and sisters here, I am no expert. However, I would feel more comfortable having an AD other than Deloss picking our next football and basketball coaches. I really do believe that Mack will resign before he is fired. The reason he makes $5 mill isn't because of championships, unfortunately, but because he's helped spearhead the financial juggernaut that is the Texas Department of Athletics. That seems to be what matters the most to those making the call.

Mack is about Mack. Darrell was for Texas thats why he retired. A school like Texas should never go though the 3yrs it just went though. By the way Texas just lost a recruit to K-state.

    Center1

  • Why would a recruit head to Texas when they know Mack is temporary? Other schools are scaring the recruits to death with the gloom and doom - definitely cannot blame them - now is the time to attack Texas and apparantly, the process is working - just do not understand why Mack wants to destroy the program - pure selfishness!

Just never thought The University of Texas would sell out to the almighty dollar!

  • Nothing changes at Texas until ESPN pulls out, or at least threatens to pull out if the product doesn't turn up a few notches.

The UT BOR and academia is ecstatic with the ESPN money. Nothing else matters.

This is the legacy of DeLoss. Books will be written about this grand quagmire that DeLoss built, shortly after it all catches fire and burns to the ground. I just hope Texas can survive once the carnage is complete.

The ESPN money is a drop in the bucket. It pales compared to ticket sales and donations. The BOR knows that. Academia? They may know we have a team...
