Food for thought: If Texas goes 10-2 in the regular season...

  • No more miracle QB at Baylor will make them struggle to be a 500 team this year and they are not going to beat Texas. TCU will be a better challenge but by then our offense is hitting all cylinders so I see us winning by two touchdowns on Thanksgiving. The games to worry about are the early season match ups, but I like our chances to go 10-2. This team will get its swagger back and no one is going to want to play us next year or late this year.

  • Devil's advocate: these would be two of the toughtest (if not the toughest) losses from a recruiting perspective. Baylor: "We own Texas, with or without RGIII." TCU: "We're an up and coming Texas powerhouse to rival Texas." If you want to dominate Texas you have to beat the Texas teams first.

  • I can see Texas winning 10 games in the regular season.

I can also see 7 or 8 because sometimes that's the way the ball bounces.

Those are two games I think Texas is going to be favored in, but games I could see going the other way.

For the record, I think Texas does beat West Virginia and Oklahoma in 2012.

Like 10-2 but really not interested in a 3-game skid vs Baylor or welcoming TCU to the conference by losing to them either. Not to mention the impact on recruiting.

We see eye to eye on OU and WVU although Its a tough stretch with OU bookending it . OU is payback for the beatdown last year and WVU is just not as good as we are. However, we have TT at their place at the end of a 6 game stretch; and KSU at their place to end the season. Those are the trip wires to navigate I think.

Baylor is right after OU when we have traditionally played well and TCU is after a bye. I think we do well on those two.

  • There are only 2 home games that scare me and they are WVU and TCU.

I bought tickets to the WVU game but won't make it to the TCU game. Out of the 2, I think WVU is the biggest threat.
If we beat OU and WVU there is no way we lose to Baylor or TCU.

  • The way BU has been recruiting, we cannot afford to lose to BU again for 2-3 yrs.

Which of the following scenarios are you picking...?

    -Texas offense is way improved
    -Texas defense is other-worldly
-OU offense will not be as good as 2011 or 2010 because of the lack of receivers and TEs

OU defense will be the same, better, or worse as 2011?

  • OU's offense will be interesting to watch this year IMO. Especially if Gardner doesn't make it in (Bester made it in). They have Stills and Metoyer at receiver, and then totally green. Totally green at TE with the exception of the JUCO blocker Brannon Green. They also have Whaley back, and have a JUCO RB Williams that they are high on. I wouldn't be surprised to see them line up with a 2 WRs, a TE (Green), and a FB (Millard), and pound the ball with Whaley, Williams, Clay (scat back), Finch (scat back), and Ross (possible redshirt). That is the clear strength of their offense, as Jones isn't good enough to carry a bunch of green receivers throughout the year while throwing the ball all over the lot.

  • The Texas strengths vs the OU weaknesses are glaring...

Texas DB vs OU WR = Texas
Texas DE vs OU RT/LT = Texas
Texas RB/TE vs OU LB = Texas
Texas LB vs OU RB/TE = Texas
Texas LB/DB vs Landry Jones = Texas

If Harsin's the offensive genius he's been made out to be, McFarland should have 6+ rec against OU LB's...& Daje/Gray should have another 3-4 rec...I give OU the edge in DL vs Texas OL & even with Texas WR vs OU DB

I would also add Texas could have a 5-man DT rotation against OU interior OL...if Texas can't take adv of those match-ups, then SWAG doesn't mean censored & Mack & his assistants will have been out-coached again...as of today, I still contend Texas is 10 pts better than OU

Wow, I cant wait to see how this plays out......LOL.

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.

I think I understand your point, but to be difficult, I have to say that I'd be very surprised if Florence somehow manages 41 wins as a starting qb in 2012, which is his last remaining season.

To be difficult, I think any QB winning 41 games in 2012 would be some kind of record.

I'm sure you get it, but the point is that UT followed VY with an unheralded QB who turned out to be a real winner. Florence showed well when he replaced an injured Griffin last year. He won't have all of the sick weapons that Griffin had, but he will have some excellent tools to work with. I'm not saying that they'll repeat their success of '11, but they could be more than a handful for most defenses. Give them even an average defense and they're dangerous on any given Saturday.

Here's a nicer thought. If RG3 was BU's VY, then their ceiling is a win in the Alamo Bowl.

You are usually pretty much down the line with your opinions. All last summer (on hornfans anyway) you said OU would win big. I've seen other post where you're able to take the Crimson and Cream glasses off, so I know you are not just a homer and are capable of rational discussion. Exactly with matchups that he gave Texas the edge in do you disagree with because I think he was pretty accurate. Having said that I know this game is not played on paper. During OU's run of 5 straight, where they made Texas look silly a few times, only 2 of those teams ('00 and '03) were better than Texas 1-53.

That was kind of my point. I agree with the general premise and was just being a little dickish after a week in court in a very emotionally trying case.

Florence also showed well in some games as a freshman. It kind of sucks for him that he burned two years of eligibility doing nearly nothing, even losing the redshirt last year by being needed for the single game against Tech in which Griffin had to sit the second half due to concussion worries.

True, but they'll keep attracting top offensive talent if they keep putting up great numbers while getting kids drafted. Art Briles might even see the light about fielding a competent defensive unit. I'd like them to have a nice 3-9 plummet to earth. That ain't happening. Florence is a big part as to why.

Florence wasn't impressive the year RG3 was injured. And I wouldn't look too much into a game against an awful Tech defense.

He was a true freshmen that year, and coming in cold and lighting up any defense for a half after two years of mop up duty is impressive.

He may bomb this year, but I doubt it. Briles doesn't recruit duds at QB, and once he gets them on campus he knows how to use them.

  • Wins against TCU and Baylor are essential to re-establish regional recruiting dominance. After one good season, Baylor is already pulling a five star commit in Rhodes. Texas ought to make sure who the number one team in the state is. A win against Baylor is far more important than a win against WVU or K-State IMO.

No wait, we need revenge against Baylor and KSt too.

Oh, and newbies TCU and WV.

Crap, let's just beat them all!
