Fall Camp Primer: Quarterback

  • So, you think Ash is as explosive as Overstreet?

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

    I don't, not athletically.

Can anyone explain to me the need for a Overstreet package. If the coaches see his future at QB why wouldn't you try to get him a redshirt year? Seems odd to give him the Ash package when there is an Ash there. I get you want to limit Ash's hits if he is a starter, but if QB is even remotely a competition than why steal from the future? Gray's vision and speed make him a better wildcat option, if he can do it. Texas has plenty of WRs that can throw the ball, so I don't see the need to burn a shirt for a couple run/pass options. Overstreet is pretty raw, I would hate to look back at his frosh year and say he wasted valuable development time (ie Wilson)

I think redshirting can be overrated. If a player can help you, then use them.

A taste of real game experience at any position is invaluable IMO.

If a player physically not where they need to be, then that's different. Then a redshirt makes sense.

    Agreed 100%.
If Jalen gives us, even a small but better chance to win one more game then we play him now.

  • Well , if VY was a true freshman....and i could get him the ball or get him in the game 10 or 15 times. If I could get him on the same field with CEDRIC Benson, Roy Williams, ....if Harsin is as good as I hope, surely HARSIN will would have VY RUN THE WILDCAT, motion to slot.... Screen passs....just get ALL 235lbs of him , all game.....just get that kid the balll and he would have made it happen in a limited , wild, hang on to your hat, SCORE SIX.

VY Had more heart than 2 Roy Williams combined...
Vy was not Chris Simms level as a senior, but he would have ENERGIZED THE TEAM IN WAYS , Bergeron and Diggs have done.

VY Had it, didnt matter if was true freshman or not. The minute he juked one ou defender....slashed , dashed for six...coaches, peers players would have just kept feeeding the ball....

For me, macks been around awhile, and applewhite has seen alot, as well as harsin...

If they think overstreeet can bring it , like a joe bergeron type of difference, then i am as giddy as a kiddy on xmas eve......
