  • Augie Garrido quotes on the AM1300 pre-game show:

"They (Missouri) did a good job. The balls they hit hard they also went to the right places on the field."

"They're pitcher pitched an excellent game...To take a pitcher out of his game you have to hit pitches that the pitcher thinks is a good pitch and we didn't do that."

"(Missouri) got it (momentum) early and they kept it throughout the game."

"The challenges and opportunities are still there. We win today and we win tomorrow, I think we're in good shape with the committee. If we lose today we're in trouble and I think everybody knows that."

"I don't think they (his players) ever got the spark list (last night); the competitive fire to take them to that above average level of competitiveness."

"We're asking these guys to be world-class athletes and perform at a world-class level, physically and mentally. And the average person can't do that."

  • Texas gets a batter aboard in the top of the first, but the other three batters it sent to the plate were retired.

Walsh got on base for the first time of this Big 12 Championship with a walk, but couldn't get past first.

  • IMO, A loss puts the post-season in jeopardy.

    You, sir, are correct.

Curtiss walks the first batter he sees.

Horns unable to get do get an out on a sac bunt by the next batter. Curtiss fielded it and thought he could get the runner at 2nd. He was wrong.

  • And a quick 1-0 hole for Texas.

The third batter Kansas sent to the plate laid down a bunt down the third base line and Weiss tried to make a tough throw to first. The bunt was ruled a hit because it would have been a tough play to make, but Weiss missed Silver at first, allowing Kanas' lead-off hitter to score.

    Dave Behr

  • Rivver

  • Kansas tacks on two more in the 1st to take a 3-0 lead.

The error by Weiss and the decision to try to get the runner at 2nd by Curtiss really hurt the Longhorns. Weiss may not have been able to get the out at 1st, but the Jayhawks would have had the bases loaded and no runs instead of 2nd and 3rd with a 1-0 lead. And had Curtiss got the runner at first none of that would have happened anyway.

With as little pop as the Texas lineup has, you can't afford to make mistakes like that in the field. You just can't.

    Dave Behr

  • Silver gets walked on four pitches to start the 2nd. Time for some Augie-ball.

    Dave Behr

  • Maybe we will get lucky and this will end in 7. Time for this mule to be put down.

  • FYI, 26 pitches in the fist by Curtiss by my unofficial count.

Stell gets a base hit to left giving Texas runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Etier up.

    Dave Behr

  • Etier barely thrown out on pretty good sac bunt to third. 3B double clutched and I really thought he was going to beat it.

    DLev

  • Lusson Ks on a pitch that looked well out of the strike zone with one out and runners on second and third.

    That's a bad K

  • There are a good 30 people in the stands.

It was funny this week when a reporter asked one of the players if he was excited about playing in front of those big crowds at the Big 12 Tournaments. I was like "Have you ever been to the Big 12 Tournament?"

  • Horns go 0-2 with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 2nd.

It looked like Texas was going to be able to get something out of that with the first two batters reaching and a nice bunt by Etier to put them on 2nd and 3rd, but Lusson Ks and Marlow flied to right to end the thread.

The bottom of Texas' order continues to not produce.

  • When you get the first two men on base against a poor team like Kansas, you have to score. I cannot believe how anemic this Texas offense is. Regardless of what happens today or over the rest of the season (which could also end today), coaching changes (i.e., hitting) have to be made, don't they?

  • A quick 1-2-3 inning for Curtiss is exactly what the doctor ordered. Just 8 pitches in the inning.

Top of the order coming up for the Longhorns. Texas going to need to capitalize when their better hitters are up.

As I type Mark Payton hits a double off the wall.

In Marlow's defense, it was more of a weak popup than a fly out.

    DLev

  • 5-4-3 double play ends a decent threat by Texas. Longhorns are able to get one across, though. Payton's lead off double was followed by a single by Weiss to put Texas on the board for the first time in Oklahoma City.

It would have been much better to get more than 1, but considering how ineffective the bottom of Texas' order has been the Longhorns can't let the top half go around without getting something across. Should have been better, but I'm sure Augie will take 1 at this point in the game considering how yesterday went.

    Dave Behr

  • Curtiss settling in now. Another quick 1-2-3 inning for the freshman.

Curtiss picks up his first K of the day and also gets a fly out and ground out to end the Jayhawks' half of the 3rd.

Silver, Stell, Etier due up for Texas in the 4th.

    Dave Behr

  • Texas again goes 0-2 with runners in scoring position.

Silver drew a lead-off walk, his second of the game, and Stell successfully sacrifices him to second, but Jordan Etier and Kevin Lusson both go down to keep the score at 3-1 Kansas. Bottom of the order...pretty much what they've done all year.

    Dave Behr

  • Curtiss has done a nice job settling down after a rough first inning.
