  • Not sure if he decided to stay a member of this board or not, but if so...

I saw on another board that he posted information and was (not surprisingly) bashed by a few people. If he is a still a member of this board, I hope that he will post his information here. One of the reasons I instantly became a member of 247 is the obvious commitment to educated conversations surrounding longhorn sports. As a result, in the boards quick history, I have read more quality posts than I have in years on other sites.

El Mahico -- Please keep posting your information, especially over here. I can only imagine the reception to your posts and the followup conversation that would take place on this board would be quite different than on other sites. The mods are excellent on 247, but the list of strong posters also contributes to the site. The thing we all have in common is a desire for high-end conversations about Longhorn sports, and I think you fit in with that mold.

  • Much agreed. I thought about posting something similar over on the site were he originally posted it but decided against it, so I'll just chime in here.

I, for one, love the info you share and I think that it would be much better received over here. Orangebloods has become overrun with people only looking to crap on threads and attack other posters. It's driven me away, that's for sure.

  • i second the above. your last post was taken off the other site before i could read it. i always have looked forward to your posts and was really pleased when you were posting over here.

  • Essentially he said DJ Monroe and the coaches have met (Monroe was upset with his PT) and that some good may come of the meeting. Good in the sense that Monroe will become a more productive player.

Also coaches said Gilbert is doing a hell of a job carrying an offense without getting much help from RBs, WRs, OL and TE. They've put a lot on the kids plate and he's responding. Armchair critics of Gilbert don't understand football.

  • I missed the information...El Mahico got upset with people ripping him and basically calling him a liar (understandable)...so he took down the information.

It just seemed silly since there is a site (here), where he wouldn't be attacked, and in fact the opposite would happen...people would appreciate his information and engage in a high quality longhorn football discussion.

I take it he's on the pay board? I have a free account over there and have never seen him.

  • To be clear, I never called out a player (nor has anyone I have talked to who's close to the 40). I don't believe in that and not sure how that thread got turned into that. I've received probably 30 emails about all this crap and it's ridiculous.

I never called anyone out or said anything close to that in my post. Not sure what the issue was with the poster who said that then edited his post. My opinion (and mine only) was that if you look at our tackles for next year, it's a major concern, imo. Nothing I said in my post could be considered harsh or even controversial.

I read the original thread in it's entirety and agree 100%. What you wrote was taken entirely out of context.

    Mahico --

Your post was excellent and the type I would love to see here. Your information is informative and interesting...thats why so many of us value your content.

I hope I am not being too bold. But my point of the original post was to point out the changing dynamic thats going on with Longhorn sport coverage. You bring high quality information to the masses and...IMO, there is a place where that information is going to be appreciated and enjoyed.

On the flip side, there is a more prominent place where uniformed people are going to tear you down and disregard legitimately good information. I am a member of multiple boards (and will remain so...I always need recommendations for Napa). But to put it plainly, I hate to see you give information to the idiots and leave the well-informed posters in the dark. I hope you know what I am saying.

And to be clear...I have no affiliation with 247...I just appreciate good work when I see it. Glad to see you are a member.

  • This place has already demonstrated a better place to have discussions about real football. There is a culture elsewhere that just doesn't allow for open discourse. Bad news, or less than glowing news...or even stuff that people disagree with, is not well received.

i agree with that. The product that these guys have over here is a good one for sure. It was a wow moment for me when i realized Gerry, Bobby and some others were over here. Very talented folks.

  • My visits to the other sites have dropped off significantly. This place rules. I don't recall running across El Mahico on other boards but his contributions here have been solid. Count me among those hoping to read more from the man. Keep up the good work.

What about Trey Hopkins? Gerry speaks very highly of him and says he can play tackle.

Hopkins over Mitchell. My hope is that it gets done this week.

  • I think Hopkins is a long-term answer somewhere along the OL. That is the good news. The bad news it will be as a true sophomore. Youth is being served IMO.

I agree, but I don't think Hopkins will be as disadvantaged next year as most true sophomores. Most have complimented his footwork and technique. That can be an extremely useful mask for lack of upperclassman strength.

Right Tackle next year could have a 2-deep with a true sophomore (hopkins) and a true freshman (Westerman). Need both of those guys to be ready.

and the depth behind those two is downright ugly. Next year's OL is by far the biggest question mark for the 2011 team. It could make or break the season, imo.

  • I know it wasn't planned for Walters to redshirt but I really think we lucked out with Ashcraft, Porter and Walters being able to redshirt.

Hopkins hasn't played thus far this season. We'll see if that changes.
