ESPN Overrated Draft Prospects....

  • Two interesting names in the "Honorable Mentions", with a nice reference to Byndom:

Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M Aggies

Over the past two years, Tannehill has fared much worse than Brandon Weeden in metrics, consistency, career growth and big-game performance.

Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State Cowboys

He was kept in check when covered by Texas Longhorns up-and-coming star CB Carrington Byndom last season. As good as Byndom is, Blackmon will face a CB of that caliber in just about every NFL contest.

  • IMO Tannehill is one of the most overrated draft prospects in the last five years. I wouldn't doubt that he can be a backup for two or three years, but top ten draft pick??? Blackmon is one that I disagree with. The best WR in the B12 is pretty likely to be the best in the draft.

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

  • Blackmon has bust written all over him. I don't see a true number one at WR in this draft. Definitely a step down from guys like AJ Green, Fitz, Calvin and Andre Johnson.

  • Doug Martin at Boise State is my pick. Good RB but not 1st round value IMO.

  • I also have to say that I think the most undervalued is Dont'a Hightower.

I think he's the best pro prospect on the Alabama team, except perhaps Trent Richardson. My guess is Hightower is a better pro than Rolando McClain and Demeco Ryans.

People don't understand that he's more athletic than Courtney Upshaw just because he's always played inside linebacker.

  • Trent Richardson may be the best pro prospect in this draft.

Tannehill will get a GM and/or coach fired in 2-3 years..............IMHO

Disagree. The two QBs at the top are much better pro prospects. In today's NFL you have to be able to throw the ball to win.

yes but they need more help. Much more goes into those guys being successful. I'm not sure you can build a better RB prospect than Richardson.

Agree. He reminds me of a less talented Adarius Bowman, honestly.

Mayock. And he's the only one who is legit IMO.

again i have to fall back on the fact that i am no football pro scout and my ability to judge is limited. BUT having said that i simply do not get what has happened with reference to Tannehill this spring.

By the end of the season even the ags thouight he was not much of a great QB. He seemed pretty bad when hit with a lot of pressure and sure lacked that Vince/Colt (or any great QB) ability to take his team on his shoulder and insist that they win.

maybe he has some kind of great arm and during pro days or combines he threw the ball through hoops and never missed. But I am with you. If he goes first round, somebody loses a job in less than 4 years.

And if the Browns take himat 4, instead of getting Mr. McCoy the tools he deserves, I will need to utter profanity and drink the devils brew. That or take a gun to Cleveland and get one of you other lawyer types to drag me out of jail

Agree with your disagreement. To me, there's Andrew Luck, then everyone else. Of course then there's RG3 and the clear cut No. 2.

But Luck is the best one in the past couple of years if you ask me.

The Stanford secondary was very bad. One of the few matchups where Blackmon can be considered a burner by comparison.

I don't think its right to compare him to prototypical WR's who are 6'4" 220-230. However Blackmon will rank very highly in wingspan, vertical leap, hands, and work ethic. I would rate him higher than Dez Bryant, Victor Cruz, Steve Smith, etc.

  • Miami needs a QB...Sherman is the new Miami OC...if Tannehill is available @ #8 for Miami & not taken, I expect teams to take immediate notice

What do you mean it isn't right? None of the guys you mentioned were top 10 picks. Where is he being drafted? You better get value at that pick otherwise you are stuck explaining why you drafted a #2 WR.

Whoa whoa whoa!!! He is NOT better than Dez.. Get Dez out of Dallas and he would be a star..

  • Not to mention Dez and Cruz aren't number 1 WRs. Smith is. I think Blackmon will be a much better player if he has a Miles Austin, Jason Witten, or Hakeem Nicks to help him.

  • I was at the BCS Championship game earlier this year and while he certainly has the size, strength and speed.....Trent Richardson is missing a very key element to become a great back in the NFL.

    He doens't have the vision.

He missed 4 to 5 wide open running lanes against LSU and could have easily scored that many more TDs in that contest making it a blowout. You can get guys to gain size, strength and improve their speed and quickness, but you can't teach vision.

He will be good, but not a great player for this reason and I think his "shelf life" will be short in the NFL.
