Durant and the Thunder

  • In reaching the NBA finals, the Thunder have beaten the 3 teams that have won 4 of the last 5 NBA championships. If they go on to beat the Celtics, it will be 5 of the last 5. If they beat the Heat, it will be 5 of the last 6.

  • Before the last Miami-Boston game, ESPN's Chris Broussard was asked about Boston's changes after the season...Broussard said he expects OKC & Boston to re-open the trade talk of Rondo for Westbrook & draft picks

I think Pop said that on his post game interview..............Coach Pop can be very prickly at times but I thought he was very gracious when he talked about the Thunder. Of course one of his boys is running the Thunder..........

OKC would be stupid to not do it. The only reason the Spurs won game 1 was Westbrook, and he nearly cost them game 5. The guy absolutely can co-exist with KD. Rondo would be awesome with the Thunder, and give them a true PG that thinks pass 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Sam presti could trade Westbrook for Rondo anytime he wanted too. Ainge would jump at the opportunity and rightfully so. I love the argument that RW is the ONLY reason OKC lost G1. He gets none of the credit when they win and he gets all the blame when they lose. Its a very narrow view. The thought that they need a PG who thinks pass 1st 2nd and 3rd is outdatd imo. This is the best crop of PGs the league has had in the last 20years. You have to have a PG who can go back at Rose, and Paul and Rondo etc. Be thankful that you have a top 3PG in the league who is only 23 years old. Oh and another thing, hes only played PG for 4 years while these other guys have been playing it their whole life.

  • Westbrook and rondo are no where close in terms of their abilities. No way you make that trade. Think dynasty.

OKC won't take any head case players.

IMO, his problem is not the "shoot first" mentality. It is the way he plays so out of control at the most crucial times in the game. This is when you want your PG making good decisions and taking care of the ball, while using the clock. Westbrook has a tendency to play the last 3 minutes like it was the first 3 minutes. He also needs to come to grips with the fact that he plays on a team, a team that includes the 3-time scoring champ. Sometimes, he has to bury his ego and give up the ball.

He had more assists this series than Tony Parker. He gave the ball up to KD in every big moment down the stretch. In game 5 he tried, but KD couldn't get open, which led to the offense stalling out and some turnovers. That was his worst moment of the series, not including game 2 where the whole team sucked, and they still won the game!!

From Broussard's info...the Celtics know they need to get younger & more athletic...Broussard is not expecting Doc, Allen, & possibly KG to return & stated BOS is expected to talk to OKC about Rondo for Westbrook & picks...

Broussard said if this went down, it would "most likely" be a draft day trade...one of those trades where OKC makes a pick & then trades the pick & Westbrook to BOS

OKC would have to give up RW and picks?

  • I do like that Rondo can take over a game if he needed too like game 2 vs the Heat. But RW just keeps getting better and better. I may be a novice but RW > RR 247

I'm a huge Rondo fan. I agree completely with you, Rondo affects a game like no one else. I wonder however, if Rondo has peaked as a player? Or is close to his peak? I know Westbrook hasn't. He's made huge strides since last year

Broussard didn't say specifics, but did say Rondo for Westbrook & draft pick...if NBA trades have the same rules as before, money & contracts would need to match...Rondo makes $10M+ & Westbrook makes $5M

& just to be clear, Broussard was really discussing the changes BOS is expected to make after the playoffs...& talked about the Rondo for Westbrook trade that nearly occurred before the season...Broussard said he expects the same trade talk to start up again

Westbrook is a FA after this season, according to hoopshype. So he's going to be looking for a max deal contract. No way the Thunder can afford that and keep Harden and Ibaka in 2 years.

Rondo is signed for 3 more years at 11M, 12M, and 13M. Both Garnett and Allen are FA(s), so Boston is going to have plenty of money to spend.

  • RW signed for 5/80 about a month into the season

  • It's not like RW is preventing KD from scoring titles. I guess I'm of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. I thought the spurs and OKC were the best 2 teams in the NBA, and i personally don't think the finals will be that close. Their bench is a little shallow, but OKC is elite right now partially because of RW.

I believe that RWs is around 15 mil a year depending on the weight of it. It's 5/75 which is a really good contract for the Thunder. It's also a good contract to trade for because he is worth 20 mil a year. I'm not sure of trade clauses though. Knowing this is a very good contract for the Thunder, I don't see him being traded.

Westbrook Is good and is also the most durable PG in the league.

Good point. I'm also of the opinion Harden isn't a max guy. I don't think it will cost as much as everyone thinks. Now that's not to say someone won't give him max money or something close to it.
