Makes absolultely no sense.

What makes sense is for people to follow the rules of this site and not have threads about politics and religion. The OT board/thread shouldn't be a part of this discussion because threads like that don't take place there since the members that post there know how to follow rules.

i have no interest in an off topic board. I have FB and other places for that sort of stuff. BUT having said that, if the rest of the folks here want it, it does not need to impact me at all. I just won't go there, unless i here great things abt it. If i do, i can try it. If it disappoints me, then i am back to the sports and no harm done.
so you guys that want this, have at it.
hell, set up a jazz board and I am there.

EXACTLY! These folks act like they'll HAVE to read the topics on an OT board. That's the whole point. To keep the majority who want only sports talk happy. You'd have to go to a completely different board and open the threads to read them. I don't see the issue here. It keeps OT threads off this board.

Love how people want to shut others up because of their thin skin these days. Everyone is always offended it seems. Let the Other Topic discussion exist and let politics and religion be a part of it.
As long as it is policed from people physically threatening each other then who cares about divisive or heated debates? Again if you don't want to participate or view it THEN DON'T OPEN IT UP.

That sounds real good BUT the fact is once you know someone's politics and religious views (and they differ from yours big time) the animosity created by that crosses over to the sport's board.
Trust me. My source for Texas sports news for years was the Inside Texas website. IT is now a shell of its former self all due to its off-topic boards.
