Does OU really have a 6-7, 335 defensive tackle?

  • On one of our websites I saw a post that included a picture of a huge blowu defensive tackle. Is this true? The post was in regards to Dom Espinosa at center and his ability to move this man mountain. I don't recall them having a Brandon Moore waiting in the wings but maybe they do. I looked on their previous signing class and saw no large human juco beings. I also don't remember them having one on their roster, any help would be appreciated.

  • Per the OU site...biggest DT is Jordan Phillips @ 6'6" 329

  • He can flat out play too and looks to be in the rotation in the interior. OU has videos of OL vs DL drills and I think Phillips is #80. He is a load. OU is going to pose some major challenges for the interior of our OL. The second and third level of the D is still developing but they are stout at the DT position.

Not sure we can move those interior guys much but if we get our big backs into the second level, they will have issues because of their size or lack there of. Our guys have to pound the LBs into submission. They are 220ish and will be tackling 225/240lb backs coming downhill. Be interesting in the fourth quarter.

One another note, their OL is holding their own in the OL vs DL drills. I am not sure if that means they have a phenomenal OL or the DL is weak on the edges. Their OL does have experience and are older than our guys. The starters in the interior are both seniors. I am really glad to have the DT coach we have now. The last one left a lot to be desired. I think we have a great chance to get to the OU game without blemish. If we can do that it means offense has joined the party and in that case, I believe we prevail.
