How so? They have 5 guys we really really wanted and offered, all 5 are now commited to A&M throw in the fact they dominated us to end last year's recruiting cycle. Whether you want to admit it or not we now recruit closer to Baylor's level than A&M's.

Heard, Roberson, and Knox would all be welcomed in CS in heart beat. Lets not get carried away. Texas is winning some battles and losing some. It is not a lockdown situation.

No doubt. Texas will have to fight more for recruits then in the past but they are on pace to have a very good class this year. that said the miss on DL's in the past couple of months is an area of concern.

Because we've got 8 guys they'd really like to have too. "Lock down" is chicken little hyperbole.

This is just a false statement.

They want Joe? Could have fooled me with them not offering.
Bernard? They signed a teammate of his in the previous year, so we know they saw him. No offer.
They told Hampton to buzz off.
    Didn't offer Gresham either.

They are trying on Heard, correct on the rest. They have some questionable takes already, even with all of that momentum. Sounds a lot like the way we were doing things......

Not buying it. Has an auburn feel and we know how that turned out.

No doubt. Something is seriously wrong with our DL recruiting, or what was supposed to be DL recruiting.

You all can hate me, but one of the biggest mistakes the old scared coach and AD made is for Texas and OU not going to the SEC. Publicly outside of Texas and Oklahoma the Big 12 with it's ten teams of TT, Kansas, Baylor, etc. is unheard of. There is no big 12 network. It's a forgotten or barely known conference outside of it. Really, outside of Texas very few people except the alumni care about the LHN. Hate or not the SEC is where the nation and most of the media is focused. But Mack and DeLoss were scared.

No I'm not a troll, born and raised a Longhorn, but I think it is just a fact in the USA the SEC is the conference that players want to play in and people want to watch. No one cares about TT, Tcu, Baylor, Kansas, etc. Sorry. Texas would have been big in the SEC.

  • Not going to the SEC isn't the biggest mistake, hell I don't even consider it a small mistake. Texas can win national titles with this dead ass conference, where we play matters little IMO. Now the head coach and our current defensive coordinator........whole nother ball game.

I would agree whole-heartedly. Texas is going to have to recruit the hell out of the JUCO world for DTs very shortly. I am really wondering what is going on with Bo Davis. He came here with a stellar reputation as a recruiter and it clearly has not shown. It is still early in the recruiting season, but the warning flags are up. Fact is this is a pretty ugly DT class in Texas, unless we see some late bloomers. I sincerely hope that Bo is looking OOS at DTs.

I do not want to harp on the SEC, but it would have opened up recruiting for us to the entire SE United States. We, IMO, would have become a much stronger and consistant team being able to pull OS players in to Texas. When we played at the other schools in the SEC we would have been in driving distance of parents from Georgia, Miss., Tenn.,Fl., etc. and I think consistant recruiting would have improved. We are now basically shut out of the SE as far as parents are concerned. Alabama doesn't recruit just Alabama, but the parents in the SE are within driving distance to where they play all their games.

Same could be said for any conference. Imagine recruiting the state of California as a member of the PAC. Western states are becoming more important as population shifts continue. I really do not see the benefit of the SEC over thePac. PAC offers easier travel. One of the best recruiting pools in the nation. That pool is a lot less competitive than the southeast. Much larger media markets. I would rather build the best conference than be a me too member.

  • Our defense was embarrassing last year and our best recruiters are on the offensive side of the ball. Other than Akina's history at putting guys into the league what have we got to sell?

    Crazy Horn

  • Our defensive recruiting is abysmal, but that's because Mack kept Diaz. After Diaz was exposed to the country last year as being completely inept and unable to teach sound defensive football or make adjustments during the season there was no way he'd be taken seriously this year.

After challenging you in an earlier post, I will say that I generally agree with your comments, IF you are referring to "abysmal" being limited to the "front 7" recruiting under Diaz's watch. However, I would disagree with you IF you are including Akina. He will get his "guys" & mold them into top-notch performers...Should Giles get a commitment from Solomon Thomas, we will have easily won that position recruiting battle vs the Aggies, as I "see" huge upsides with Derick Robertson & Thomas is already the Top 3 nationally at his position...plus, Jarrett Johnson is STILL on-the-board, although
intrigued with the Aggies after their Jr day.

Who is to say that we do not land a Juco or OOS prospect or two for the interior D-line? It is 11 months until
2014 signing day, but you already knew that...

I am not a Diaz fan, but you are not completely correct on Manny not making "adjustments during the season". Starting
with the 2nd half of the KU game our D DID make adjustments and finally limit the complicated schemes, so our guys
knew what the heck they were doing, "most" of the time & we improved for the remainder of the season, save
a few mis-steps in player assignments & wrong calls from Manny to match-up with what the O had called--that 'stuff happens' with young, inexperienced teams...I think this is why Mack decided to keep Diaz & give him a chance to
show what he should be capable of doing...no doubt he has the intelligence to correct what happened last season.
I'm from Missouri, but will back him in getting our D respectable, meaning back to 2011 levels at least, whereas I
    recall, we ended-up a Top 3 conference D...
