“Football is fine,” Dodds said, calling last season’s 9-4 finish “the end of the world to some folks but it’s not the end of the world. You’ve got to go through some downs to enjoy the ups. Now, we don’t want to have a lot of them. But 9-4 is pretty good, about where I thought we’d be. I think next year looks a lot better ... back to our standards.”

'Fine' can easily slip into the norm. At an institution like UT the bar should and must be set much higher. Fine should be BCS games and great should be NC.

No DD, UT football isn't fine.
63-21 isn't fine.
118-38 isn't fine.
Historically bad defenses aren't fine.
5 game losing streaks to conference foes isn't fine.
Recruiting fizzling isn't fine.
A complete system rebuild isn't fine.
An athletic department being forced to air its dirty laundry, let alone having dirty laundry, isn't fine.
Your standard, Mr. Dodds, clearly has more to do with the bottom line than victories, and it's pretty clear you can't see the correlation between the two or you'd have rectified your ailing AD, and be rolling in the kind of cash even your money grubbing mind couldn't comprehend.

You are describing the bar that DeLoss has always set. It is obviously aspirational since no team apart from perhaps FSU in its heyday has ever met it for a 15 year period.

Interesting that the article says "Texas, the behemoth of the Big 12, is in a serious funk." The behemoth was reduced to the status of a pet. In some writings, it was served up as food. So might Dodds say to his alma mater, "Here, kitty. Dinner!"

Continuity is huge. Having a person who does it the right way is huge. Having a person who cares about kids is huge.”

It's possible.

Winning conference championships has always been Mack Brown's Achilles heel and why it has time for him to go. But he is such an incredible recruiter he has always managed to get his teams into the BCS hunt even without a direct ticket. I have no real hope that he can take us to the next level. The next coach probably won't either, but at least there would be hope.

I've heard Dodds in on the hot seat with the BOR and may be gone in March. And the info is not from Jesus.
But it's also not info from high up the University ladder, so take it with a grain of salt.
Here's to hoping he is gone in March (retired, forced leave, whatever) and that a new A.D. is brought in who will select his own coach and that Mack retires at the end of 2013 as indicated by the Dodds' dismissal.
