  • I am as excited as anyone to be getting a new OC, and hated what happened this year, but the level of animosity and vitriol being thrown at Greg Davis is ridiculous and disappointing. Especially on a personal level.

We "won" and are getting what we want. No reason to denigrate the good that GD things he brought to the program as well, including being part of the only NC here in 30 years and some of the highest scoring, most effecient offenses in NCAA history.

I'm actually impressed that Mack went for the full makeover. I bet it was hard for him to do, but am encouraged that he knew what had to be done AND did it. Kudos to him. Hopefully the new hire delivers.

Stay classy Horns...The WR screen is dead, long live the WR screen.

+1 The venom is really unbecoming. Attcking Davis personally only reinforces that we have an ugly, horrible, but very visible segment of the fan base when it comes to treating our players and coaches with basic respect.

We had a bad season. I understant that; I understant that very well. We all want to feel better about the proposect of our team going into next season. Getting rid of Davis signifies a promise of better things to come. But let's be very real - letting Davis go is only part of the resolution. It may serve as a shot of adrenaline that makes us feel better about ourselves for the moment, but until we have a proven commodity both as a recruiter and as an offensive coach that delivers on the field, during real games against good teams, we ain't done shit yet.

Greg Davis: I have not resigned

Offensive coordinator Greg Davis told the American-Statesmans Kevin Robbins Sunday afternoon that he has not resigned from the Texas coaching staff and that he is continuing to evaluate his situation with coach Mack Brown. Davis said he and Brown will...

Why does it have to be personal, in either direction? Coaching football is hard (unless you get to do it from the couch or stadium seats). Why can't we all acknowledge that, after a whole lot of really good to great years, the Texas offense, under the direction of Greg Davis, came up a clunker this year? He is probably going to be asked to fall on his sword to satisfy the rabid fanbase. Whether he deserves that fate is up to Mack Brown to decide. I am pretty sure he doesn't need to be drawn and quartered in the public square.

  • - The haters are always gonna hate...this same group of people has more venomous hate for GD than their support for The University of Texas...& let's never forget, this same group of haters were able to put their genius level IQ's together to come up with a plane & Aggy banner

    - If GD has/does resign, good luck to him in his future endeavors...he helped rebuild this Texas program into the strongest in the country & deserves recognition for his efforts over the last 13 years

How did my post, which was intended simply for a laugh, draw this response?

I know coaches have responsibilities in these areas but after a 5-7 season and your program in near shambles you take a trip to NYC? Does anybody else think that is irresponsible and arrogant? Mack's ass ought to be in Austin dealing with these issues.............that is his problem he is more flash than substance.sinking

It is because I love UT football that I donated to the banner. A message had to be sent to Mack. The message used his verbiage, and it certainly got back to him. I am as comfortable with my actions in relations to that banner as I am of any action I have taken in my life this past year. It was tastefull and was for a worthy cause. There is no logical reason why it could be considered tasteless.

I see it as no different than publically complaining on a radio program. People call for jobs all the time on talk radio. Is a Texan's fan calling for Frank Bush's job classless?

i actually think that's one of the problems. I think he spent far too much time this spring and summer doing TV (interviews, commercials and NFL draft) and radio spots.

if by "but not by those you intended" you mean the whole Texas football world then yeah, it wasn't received.

bobby, will you and Johnny Walker let me know how best to reach you off line? I have a happy hour I will gladly sponsor per my back and forth with Johnny. I do have a place in mind and would like to make formal arrangements so proper board postings and invites can be made. Should be a helluva happy hour.

I do want to wait until the formal announcement, but if that's today, we might as well get started.

You can contact me at johnny@longhornsunplugged.com. It was just a matter of time before GD was let go. He has no one to blame and no fingers to point at. He just flat wasn't getting the job done.

Thank God for Tim Brewster talking Mack into recruiting Vince as a qb. If it had been up to Davis, Vince probably does all of those great things for the University of Miami. JMHO
