  • I have recently noticed that I am more of a Longhorn football fan than a college football fan. This list pretty much proves it. I can't imagine watching any of those games.

Give me Texas and New Mexico and I'm all in. LSU against Alabama, meh. Not so much.

  • Hate to see Alabama playing in Arlington. They do not need more visibility in Texas to aid recruiting. Who do we thank for this, JJ??

I'm right there with you. I can't miss a play of Texas football. The rest of the games can be flipped through or casually watched in the background as I play Scattergories.

  • A$M vs Fla and SMU vs Baylor??
    Hardly.

the college football non-conference schedule is the worst I've seen in my lifetime...really not many good games early this year

I guess I'll have to be the lone dissenting voice here - I foam at the mouth for the start of the season, and watch as many games as I can. Don't get me wrong, I'll take any Texas game over any other, but I love watching the big boys go at it.

Hell, I even watch the Thursday night games, but that's just me. I just love college football.

Lone exception - I can't watch Boise State at home - that carpet hurts my eyes....

  • I'll go a couple more games that I think should be interesting, given my addiction. May not have NC game implications, but certainly BCS bowl implications I think:

August 31 - Boise St at Michigan St - Was last year a fluke for Michigan St? Is Boise St for real this year?

Sept 1 - Clemson at Auburn - BCs whippin' last year for Clemson - bounce back to be a factor or a one year wonder. Auburn - well, let's see if it was all Cam and Chizek is the Iowa St guy, or do they get back into the SEC hunt?

Sept 8 - maybe not BCS implications, but I think an interesting story line -
Nebraska at UCLA - UCLA stunk last year, but I'm curious of course about Norm as HC. Nebraska needs to dominate to show they can be a BCS worthy team.

Washington at LSU - Starting to turn things around in Seattle, but huge task in Baton Rouge. Washington's D stunk, but LSU offense stinks too. UW might have a heisman candidate at QB, and this might be a little more of a test for the pre season #1 than it might appear.

Miami at K State - I love these non conference games like this - suprised Snyder has it, but probably didn't schedule it knowing him. Golden is a good coach, and let's see if K State repeats last year's effort.

  • Much more pressure on Muschamp this year than Sumlin. I don't think his job in on the line, but he does need to show that Florida is a resurgent program. Otherwise, he will be looking at a make or break year in 2013. FSU is a resurgent program, especially from a recruiting perspective. Plus two Florida legends are still coaching and he will have to compete with them in terms of perspective. Spurrier's South Carolina program has very good talent on campus and will be a hard win for Muschamp. I don't know how much better OSU will be this year; but I suspect that they will be the Big X favorite in 2013. Muschamp needs to beat an Aggie team that is considered to be a weak sister in SEC land. Sumlin has breathing room, but this is his best chance for beating a traditional national name.

  • I'm in the same boat withNeonmoon,Tulsahorn, and GH. Im a college football junkie and will watch as many as I possibly can. When it comes to NFL I'm like you bbliss and GetHooked. I don't care past the Texans.

I'm with you, especially at the start of the season...take horn games over all, but watch as many as I can early on...get more picky as the season goes on.

You said it so completely I don't have to write it, right down to the putrid color of the Boise field turf. That is a crime against nature and should be outlawed. I will not watch their home games.
I've been a college football junkie all my life and watch as many games on Thursday, Friday & Saturday as possible. While the Horns are always primary, watching the other games is what gives full appreciation to the unique national past time of college football. It is so amazing to see the incredible talent throughout college. You see how teams with less money and less talent can still be extremely good. You see the passion and love of the game not just once on Saturday, but many times each Saturday. If you miss all the other big games, you really have no feel for who the best teams are, and why they are the best, and why some coaches are masters and some just lucky doofuses (Les Miles).
I can't imagine Not watching the games Gerry framed, for the precise reasons he gave. These early games are huge games for the programs and their outcome will be important at the end of the year as well. I'll be pulling for Muschamp to right the ship and be watching the Agg Sagg.

  • Sumlin is a very good coach. I was really hoping we brought him back as our OC along with Wyatt after Wilson left. I am not sold on Huepul and Norvell yet, but we will see. IMO, Wyatt was the best hire you had of the new coaches for you guys. When Sumlin got the A&M job, I thought Wyatt was gone from you guys, but he stayed. Good keep for you guys and a good get for A&M in Sumlin.

  • Washington State vs BYU August 30th. The pirates return to college football is definitely must see tv for me. The sideline interviews alone will be worth tuning in.

  • All Agdom will be sky high for the Gators. That should help the Aggies make a closer game of it than roster talent alone would indicate. Even a close loss will have the Ags proclaiming they can play with the best in the SEC.

June Jones' passing attack should be able to put up enough points against a weak Baylor defense to keep it close. Gilbert may fare better against the weaker defenses SMU will see, but he still won't have the huge training advantage he enjoyed over h.s. DBs.

I'm actually interested to see how his offense performs in the SEC. SEC defenses have done a good job of shutting down Tech and you guys over the years, but it may be different when those defenses only have a week to prepare versus a full month-plus of a bowl game. I don't think Sumlin has the QB he needs for that offense on campus right now, though. He only recruited one of the guys on campus while he was at Houston (Showers).

I agree on the month vs week preperation. That being said, I dont think Sumlin will bring what he did at Houston to A&M. He will use some of it, but not all of it. Itll be very similar to what we run, which is not a spread but multiple. It could be 5 wide or I formation or ace package on any down. Some gun, some pistol and some under center.

I really dont know what to think about A&M season wise. I do think they will beat UF on the 8th. One thing they will get under Sumlin is some serious technique work and discipline. The way they lost focus last year in games they were way ahead in was amazing. That wont happen under Sumlin because he will use the bench as a motivator.
