DT Whaley at 292 Lbs... just Saying....

  • DT Whaley at 292 Lbs... as a Senior, I thought he was a redshirt Junior ???

Facts are this will be his first full year to prepare, train and learn a DT technique.

Last year at this time, he was still sort of auditioning for DE not DT. He was still entertaining the idea that he just might be a HBack, TE / FB or even RB. He wasnt all in yet mentally nor in a physical sense.

So the end result was he ended up learning on the fly, he end up making a huge difference, and he contributed in a very positive way to that nationally ranked defense.

I havent heard a peeep from the mods...nor seen a thread mentioning his name???

I can only say that Given ONE whole year , one whole offseason to train at one particular position, to mingle with those guys in the trenches.....to train under Bennie Wylie.

Listen , if your an opposing offensive Line coach , where do you attack...who do you double.???

Okafor and JJ Jeffcoat ?? You better get the ball out of your hands Immediately.....3 step drop and release is all the time your going to have???? if that ??

Brandon Moore........sounds like he will be good for 20 to 30 plays based on conditioning. I am not sure you can leave a only a guard or center. His push up the middle has a more devasting effect than an edge rusher.

Whaley at 292lbs ....quick like a cat.....what if we the opposing offensive line has to end up double teaming him.???

Brandon Moore and Chris Whaley push up the middle may be more mind boggling for a QB to deal with than a Okafor / JJ effect.

If you combine the push of Brandon Moore, the cat quick explosiveness of Whaley with JJ / Okafor viciousness,

this is a Defensive line that will force OC to get the ball out lightning quick.

END result is this plays right into our strength. mid to short game ......

Cobbs and Hicks are just going to continue what Acho/Robinson Lb combo allowed us to do on defense last year. Expect these two guys to clean up.
Vaccarro and Phillips are both super playmakers...and look for them to be able to take advantage our Defensive line push.

Whaley 292 lbs will be on the field more than Brandon Moore, , he will be in shape, conditioned...and a Star...., Moore is good but if your not in the game, you cant make the plays. So I predict Whaley is the overall difference Maker on DT side.

With Vaccaro not having to plug leaks here, responsbility of covering over the top or responsible for up the gut run stopping., with the inside help in short and mid passing game with Cobbs and Hicks......

Look for the Game to become simpler, faster for Vaccaro. Look for Vaccaroo to be more focused and more vicious.....more tuned into getting his interceptions, turnovers. I would be surprised if doesnt win the Thorpe Award or one of the finalist.

    I loo

  • It'll be interesting to see if Whaley has progressed enough to where he's more than a situational player at DT. BTW he's a redshirt junior this year. Class of 2009.

  • I read it all.. pretty good stuff.. pumped me up!! especially when looking at the Jeffcoat, Whaley/Jackson/Moore, Okafor full effect!!

  • Jackson and Dorsey start.

Moore and Whaley off the bench. Brown works his way in by the 2nd game of the year.

I'm guessing the answer is "no", but I also think that the staff is just fine with the role that Whaley has carved out for himself and what he'll contribute to the team this fall.

Agreed. Malcom rounds out the top 4 at DT with Chris Whaley as your pass rushing specialist.

  • I'm ecstatic about the depth that we have on the d-line, especially at DT. Can't wait to see how we dominate Wyoming and New Mexico State.

  • I see Moore with Dorsey and Brown rotating on early downs.

Tank and Big Whale on passing downs.

    yeaaaaaaaaaah!

    Black Shipley

  • Whaley listed as a Junior on official roster. DT's good this year, will ball next year.

It's gonna be hard to keep Moore off the field on 3rd and longs. Instant chaos, think Suh dominating Snow and Hall while McCoy was completely helpless.

This is exactly what I'm thinking. Tank and Whaley are both exceptionally quick for big men. With Edmond clogging the middle behind them I think you can put both these guys on the line and bring some serious heat on long passing downs.

  • 4 maybe 5 possible NFL DT's on this team, 2 NFL DE's, not bad. Couple of DB's too.

  • I have a little bit different opinion of the DT rotation. I think Dorsey and Des are going to get moresnaps than the others, with Malcom coming in 3rd and closing hard by November. I think the jury is still out on Moore being anything more than a situational player himself, like Whaley (although the situations won't be the same). I'm not sure Moore has the stamina to perform at a high level on more than 10-15 snaps per game.

    Racer X

  • Well that sure is an interesting take re: 10-15 snaps. Just pontificating like most of us or do you have knowledge Moore's stamina is that bad?

  • SMACK.........BAM.........ear ringing.....ECHOS bouncing off the stadium walls, teamates helmuts.......WV QB tries to stand up, but his legs are wobbling... STEVE Edmund hovers over him like ALI wondering if he really is going to get up....., Geno thought he would keep it this time..... juke to the left..juke to the right...dash to the goal line....

Mistake numero UNO....... STEVE EDMOND.....plants , his legs like a jackhammer and he not only puts an end to that game of juke the LB.....but STEVIE comes with such ferocity...such finality that his teamates realize that there is NO cleaning up.......a vacccuuuuum of pure FINallity

VAccarro normally is the recieving end of those head slaps.....ear ringing , leg wobbling , ball jarring effects..... HE slaps the shat outta StevO's helmut.....YElling over the crowd " Leave some for me.....Let me have some of that....!!!!!!

Like a bunch of pack wild dogs..... ITs STEVE EDMUND that will lead this pack of wild dogs......pack of vicious hyneas......

Sure he has no experience....sure he is the new comer...... BUT He IS OUR MIDDLE LINEBACKER.......he is the core ...the heart and soul......

The first thing the QB seees as he raises his eyes from the center to STEVO.....he will STEVE EDMUNDS eyes bulging eyes....with each breath the DEFENSE breaths.....

Their may be better athletes.....more experienced....but AT the core of this defense....They will know, their is no Running betweeen the tackles........

Not Since NOBIS ......The defense starts and Ends with that Middle LB............

with our DT's with our DEs....... Loook for STeve EDMOND learning curve to be highlighted with bone jarring, ear ringing......team leading bone crushing.....soul squeezing hits that just take the life outta QBs, RBs......slot wr loooking for a quickie.....

I say Okafor, MOORE, Whaley, Jackson and STEVE EDMOND .......... I translate that to Power , POWER...., QUICK, QUICK, and Steve EDmond is the BAM, BAM, wham bam thank you mam...!!!

    Agree with the 1st half,

Don't care about dominating Wyoming and NM,

Do think our DL wrecks havoc on teams like WVU, OSU OU and Baylor not to mention TCU later in the year.

If they don't, afraid it's a long year for the good guys.
