We all had enough of Bama about a second after they took Colt out of the MNC game. They have sailed on to be more than just the elephant in the room since that game. Why has Bama done so well while UT precariously wobbles?
Not too long ago, 2003, Bama put their future in the hands of an ex-qb-alum. Mike Shula took over a program that was in a big hole internally although they posted a decent record. He did well and after the 05 season was given an extension and a raise. In 06, he was due $1.8 million. Originally, he was given a six year deal, but after four years he was gone despite the extension and raise. It cost Bama $4 million to say good bye. Then they hired Nick for a perceived outrageous sum and look what they got for it.
Unlike UT, Bama took steps and decisive steps to right the wave. They fired an alum, a well respected ex-qb. Bama has had an AD from within the Bama family throughout their long process, who just retired. Obviously, Bama knew to stick with homegrown Tide boys to oversee their sports programming who could make tough decisions. It seems that at UT we are unfortunately getting what we over-paid for. If anyone knows Dorothy, will you ask where Kansas is so we can send Deloss home? Is there really no ex UT sports figure that couldn’t do a better job than Deloss?
The Alabama administration and their big money backers must understand something about winning that we just don’t get. Mack was the right chose when he came to UT. Good man, honest, respected and a man who could smile and glad hand those who count. Times change and UT needs to get about change. Do what Bama did; go find the best coach and pay them what it takes. I am assuming UT can afford to do that. Would any of the UT big dollar boys keep their top executive if he only produced a 13% winning record against their top rivals for number one in their business fields?
Bama is not that much better than UT, they just react faster and obviously smarter.
That's almost as good as Shakespeare making me envision a knight wading into the surf.
Just like the Cowboys, nothing will change until poor performance on the field starts reducing the money. The Longhorns win the National Championship for money generated and that is the only award DD cares about.
I'm just trying to get my head wrapped around Alabama being "smarter" than Texas.
I get that, but it shows that every once in a while an inbread southerrn cousin makes a wise decision. They may not be real smart over there, but they are showing everyone else how the game is played, including UT and Lord Dodds.
