Buzz Bissinger has a follow up to the book. It's only 34 pages long and $2.99.
Here's an excerpt.
Loved this book. Will definitely check this out.

Thank you for sharing. My cousin played at Midland Lee when all of this was being chronicled for the novel, so this is a story that garners interest.
How good was boobie really??
Brenhams next star Darrion Johnson Class of 2014
Miles posts here as closetojumping.
Had a good friend that played LB at San Angelo Central and played against Boobie. Said he was very hard to tackle and talked sh!t the entire game. My friend played LB in Div.2 ball so he wasn't exactly a scrub.
Buzz is a first class a-hole.
Friday Night Lights is one of a handful of books that I've read more than once. I still love it. The story of Boobie is probably one that crosses my mind every month or so in one situation or another. Tough stuff.
My little brother was on that Central team...Played WR and special teams...Small world...
Still my favorite sports/non-sports book of all time. Thanks for the find coach!
Disciplina praesidium civitatis
i have to read that book. movie was great.
that explains the anger
The movie didn't have 1/2 the punch the book did. It really went into the (at times f-ed up) football crazy culture of West Texas and its short term and long term social impact. I HIGHLY recommend it.
That boy can play some football. He can play left, he can play right, don't make no difference. He can block, tackle, score the touch down, snap the ball, and kick the extra point. Hell, the boy will fill up the Gatorade cooler, walk the dog, and paint your back porch. I'm telling ya, the boy can plain outplay football.
OOHH! And he can pass!
thanks. it's at the top of my reading list now.
Now this is a quality post
A bigger, faster, stronger, more elusive and athletic version of Cedric Benson at Midland Lee. Boobie Miles was the most talented player in Permian history it's not close. It's a shame what that injury did to him because it would have been a pleasure to watch him do his thing leading Permian to the 1988 state title.
I love the book and even though it painted Odessa in a tough light it was a fair and accurate portrayal of the town, people, school, and team at the time.
Like a West Texas Ditka....nicknamed after female mammary glands.
I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.
sorry, don't think Benson ever ran as high as Miles did. He looked more like a Chris Brown (of 2001 Colorado) to me.
Friday Nights Lights is to me as The Notebook is to women.
